Apple Browser possibilites (with mockup)

Hey,

This is my first post! I was wondering what you all think about the possibility of an Apple browser. It seems they've made just about every other internet application (i.e. Sherlock for searching, Quicktime for media, iChat for messaging, etc.). Also, what would it be called? iBrowser? iSurf?

Here's my idea of what it might look like:

Nice mockup, man. good effort.

Welcome to MacRumors! I like your mockup. I'm not sure about the brushed aluminum skin, though. Although it goes with most of the iApps, I think it might interfere a bit too much with some web site designs. Maybe not, it's hard to tell.

I really do hope if Apple puts out its own web browser (iWeb perhaps?) that it will have a powerful engine under the hood and not some watered-down sissy browser like the old AOL 4.0's IE, for example. Whatever browser that is, as long as it's fast and can disable pop-up windows I'll be happy. :)

I like Cunning's brushed metal interface. Easier on the eyes than the bright pinstripe.

to bad its so buggy, its fast, but so damn buggy
 
maybe they will just call it "Browser" like they did with Mail. it would be for both home and pro use, like Mail.
 
I wouldn't say mail is for 'pro-use' - it has ver limited functionality.

Cunning is cool, but Chimera is better, because it is the same thing with less bugs. I would be happy if apple just basically bought chimera, and named it iBrowse, iSurf, or Browser.

I think that an apple broswer is probably something they're working on! I sure hope so, as they have made every single other internet app.!
 
heh... yet another contender in the browser wars...

It depends on how fast and simple it is. If it's a nice streamlined browser, I'll use it, but it it lacks certain features, or is just plain slow, you won't find me using it. (but of course, it will be fast, since Apple's making it :cool: )

Okay, I would just use it b/c it was made by Apple.. that is how much of a die-hard fan I am. I'm sure however, that if apple made it, it would be truly fantabulous! Go apple! Again, the name...

iBrowse is eyebrows
and everything else is cheesy besides isurf
 
got this of a winblowz forum...maybe a few of u have seen this already...one of the ppl on the site skinned chimera, and this is how he thinks how the new apple internet browser will be...i think lol

i think its a really cool design. cept the only thing i want in it is one of those little favorite bar things, i love those. one thing i like about ie is that u can drag them into ims, emails, the dock, the desktop, etc. i dont know if you can do that with other browsers, but prolly.

an Apple browser: bout time

Please, give us a good web browser. IE is slow, all of the others dont render some MS pages properly and are buggy.

Love the mock ups. You know if jobs sees those then he will either:

buy and become CEO of them or
create something totaly different and easy to use that my mum might use it!!!!!
 
I was thinking that Chimera and Serlock could be merged into one application. In the browsing mode, a Serlock icon on the toolbar would change the buttons to Serlock Channels. Another icon in Serlock mode would toggle the application back to browsing the web.

I think looking at the brushed metal mock ups, that brushed metal is too intrusive for a browser.

Then again, I hate all browser chrome save for Mozilla's tabs, and the URL bar...

It would be great for Apple to have its own browser! :)

I might get flamed, but I think it would be a STUPID idea for Apple to cut ties with Microsoft. The reason I say this, is Apple needs well known MS products on their platform like IE and Office. Maybe someday when they have more market share, but not now as they are trying to gain market share and get people to switch.

The first question people always ask me is will it run MS Office. Look at the switchers website on apple.com. One of the first things they mention is Office v.X. It is a good program and is an industry standard. Also, as most on this message board are well established we don't understand a first timers reaction to the MacOS. I can tell you, many of my PC friends are like, I can use this when they see the familar IE icon. Yes Apple needs to work at getting people to switch, but they should also be working with the Mac division over at MS to help improve IE and Office instead to dumping MS. At this point I think it would be a fatal mistake in marketing.

Microsoft likes having IE on the Mac, well cause you know how they are. I don't think Apple should be working too hard at pissing them off. The switch campaign is good, but if Apple makes a default browser of their own and dumps IE I can say for sure that Office will be dumped by MS as revenge. Then where are we?
 
Chimera is god!!! I think if Apple was smart they would help develop Chimera. What if Apple had help developed Waston, not stealing it or ripping it off. If Apple did this it would send a message towards freeware developers. Apple needs to give a helping hand in getting rid of that evil ie :)

if apple included an apple browser with the os, they might as well also include ie, just like including both ie and netscape 4 on os 8x - 9x...since many ppl are fans of ie..
 
I'd like to see Apple create a browser, if only for my wanting to rid myself of IE. I would also like to be able to connect to newsgroups through .Mac using some sort of iApp. I only wish Apple could create some Gnutella-based download app (ala Limewire) and be able to avoid all the legalities.

I, for one, am tired of the price tag on Microsoft Office. I'm not going to buy a new Mac anytime soon, so the Office deal isn't applicable for me. If Apple wants to have Appleworks compete with Microsoft Office, I am for it, if only to say I use no MS apps. If Apple does that, they need to make darn sure that it is 100% compatible with MS Office, and will really need to push that with the switch campaign. I would really like to see an Apple version of PowerPoint.
