What I also don't like is that if the repair shop is waiting for a part to come in (e.g. new screen etc), they have to hold onto your Macbook even if it's still functioning. I wouldn't care so much if the product didn't function at all, but this is not usually the case in my situations where I had to get warranty work done on an Apple product.

I believe they do this just in case you change your mind and decide not to get the repair done (for whatever reason) and then they are stuck with a part that is useless to them. I understand that there is a risk in ordering something and the customer not taking it, but to remedy this I would be willing to put a deposit down on covering the cost of the actual part so that I can take my computer home and use it until it is ready for repair. I tried offering this to my local authorized repair shop, and they refused and made me handover the laptop if I really wanted it to get fixed. How retarded.

Why is everyone's Apple Store experience so different? I remember for one repair i needed, they had to other some very obscure part, but they just gave me a repair number, and told me to check in the computer whenver the part arrived.

And that's the problem. Good experiences probably mean that the local store has excellent management.

I went to a restaurant tonight that had 4 customers and 10 employees. And those 4 customers couldn't get an employee to refill their water. I had called my order in to-go, so I didn't have to deal with the in-house problems. But I know I won't be dining there any time soon after seeing that.

Bad management.

I go to other places, and everything is automatic. It sounds like many Apple stores are that way. I will be honest, when I stopped at the Apple shopette in the Nebraska Furniture Mart, the person who helped me was very friendly and helpful. I knew more about what I was trying to buy than she did, but I'm also posting on a rumors site, so that's to be expected. :)
