I'm surprised they canceled without offering you to enter a new method of payment? Normally if a card is declined, they'll send a warning email to update MOP first.

Unless some type of fraud alert was on PayPal account.

ya that's really weird. They don't just try once and say sorry. You usually get a couple days to work it out. Something else happened that he isnt telling us.

But yes there is something you can do. Go to the Apple store on Thu night around 10pm, put your chair down and wait it out....

It’s no big if somebody doesn’t get their order
It’s a big deal if You Don’t get Your order

Having lost Launch day reservations in the past I feel your pain.

Worst was my iPhone 5 That was received with a defective iTunes charging port
Replacement took 2 weeks 14 business days......

Apple is getting better hope your experience does too

They could have given him a chance to update the payment method like they usually do. Especially when the difference is a month and half.

ya that is why there is something else going on that he isnt telling us. We need the whole story first not just 'paid with Paypal" Did you pay with a paypal debit card, did you pay with paypal and not have enough in the balance. Was it for the fill amount of the phone not just the tax. So many things we dont know.

That’s also true. You do have a point ofcourse.

But sometimes Apple “fanboys” take it to a new level defending a company. I mean I’ve been using Apple products for the last 12 years. I even made my whole family switch when they tried iPhones, etc but in the end they are a business. Being better than the competition doesn’t make them always right that’s all

And sorry if my English isnt great. It’s not my first language :)

I DON'T buy anything with PayPal if it's something important that I want. I've seen other problems with paying with PayPal for NON eBay stuff. And I don't see any advantage using PayPal because they either grab the money directly from your checking account immediately (BAD) or transfer the charge to a credit card. If it's the latter, why not go directly with the credit card in the first place.

On order night (Oct 27th), I had a credit card refused after entering the data twice. I switched to another card and it went through immediately. I called the bank that refused the payment and they said it shouldn't have happened. Apple glitch on preorder night???

I used my PayPal business debit card to place the preorders for my wife and I, no issues came up. I prefer to use it because I can essentially earn double rewards by having it linked to a credit crd with its own rewards program. PayPal won’t finalize the chats until Apple sends the requests, so no money is being held while the order is processing on their end.

P.S
I never keep money in their balance, it’s a waste of time.

Very surprised Apple didn’t offer for a different payment method before canceling. Did they say they first tried to contact you by email or phone?

Paypal is a tricky payment method. You may want to check with them to see what may have happened as well. Sometimes they let transactions go that shouldn’t and then they will flag transactions that shouldn’t be an issue.

I'm not new to this system. I've bought a dozen phones and iPads through pre-order over the last 10 years, just got an iPhone 8 a little over a month ago. All of those transactions went fine.

This one did not. I still have an active reservation showing, have talked to CS a dozen times since Friday and absolutely nothing has happened.

Love how people attack the op when he did nothing wrong.

If this happened to you, you’d be freaking out and crying. Stop playing.
Do you have more of the story? There is not enough information in OP's post to make the conclusion 'op...did nothing wrong." Something is quite off with the details as many have commented. There is more to this story.

In any case, this is a simple situation. Someone tried to order something and couldn't pay for it. Apple cancelled the order that was unpaid [here is where the details are lacking of if they tried to contact OP or tried multiple times, etc].

Why do you spread lies? I was able to pay!

Yes this is why I'm upset. They should've sent me an email and asking for a different payment method and not immediatly cancelling my order!
I never had any problems with PayPal and even PayPal said (after I called them) that everything with my account is fine. I just had bad luck that this happened to me, but still mad why Apple didnt offered a different method. :()

It's really not their fault.

If you had gotten your financial house in order this wouldn't have happened.

I did nothing wrong.

I wish they did but they didnt.

Everything is fine with my PayPal account.

Thank you! People really think I would order to buy a phone that I can't afford and with my PayPal was/is also nothing wrong.

No, I called them in the morning after I've seen that they cancelled my order. I didn't got a mail for the cancelling reason from Apple until the evening

Another user reported how there was an issue with their card and apple werent able to process the transaction so they called up the guy who provided details of an alternative card.

they should have called you to confirm if you had alternate means of paying for your reserved order.

are you absolutely sure you didnt receive any call from Apple?

I know they do call on occasions as its happened to me on previous launches ...... but with millions of transactions I expect there are many who don't get a call or you get one chance of taking the call and that's it ! :)

The reason you're seeing our type of replies that sound like we're defending Apple, is because it HAS happened to many of us in the past (myself included/declined payment). Apple has always given a chance to provide new method of payment even for launch day pre-orders.

It's not just because we're fanboys/girls, but actually surprised that Apple didn't give you any option.

That's true. Usually when there is something wrong, Apple will reject the order and notify you: Your address doesn't match, the credit card date on your account has expired, those kinds of things. You can correct them and still move forward. Not this time.

I had banks refuse my card a few times in the past, so why not? The card that was rejected was with CitiBank. I popped another number from another CitiBank card and my order went through. With millions from all over the world trying to order the new X at the same time, I can see where the software might have failed for a few.
