iPad Pro Apple Care for iPad or not?

I usually get AC+ for my iPhones and also my Apple Watch but have never done so for my iPad’s. This time around though I am considering it. I intend to keep the M4 for at least 3 or 4 years so my question is, do you guys usually get AC+ for your iPad or not?

I haven't before but did with the M4. They're quite expensive so a bit of insurance to protect the investment definitely helps!

I would definitely recommend it for an M4… an out of warranty screen replacement is something like $900.

I did purchase for my 13 Air. Mainly because I am using this iPad more on the go than other iPads in the past. For the M4 and the cost of repairs I think I would be buying AC+ for sure

I have both the 11 and the 13. My 11 is cellular whereas my 13 in WiFi only and sits at home on my desk. Don’t think I’d buy AC for my 13, but the 11 will come with me when I go on weekend breaks so it will be that I’ll get AC for, if I decide too.

I did buy it for my new M4 and I always have for my iPads in the past. I use my iPad a lot so it's worth it to me to not worry if something happens to it.

I buy Apple Care + for all my Apple devices. The M4 iPad Pro is just too expensive to take the chance. Plus I like the tech. support.

Yes. Look up screen repair prices on the iPad Pro. Several years ago I had an iPad that went out of warranty and I dropped it less than a week later. It was nearly the cost of a new iPad to replace the screen - so I bought a new iPad. Now that monthly AC+ is an option, it goes on all my devices.

I have never gotten AC on any of my Apple devices. In the past 15 something years I have been using Apple products I cracked on iPad screen once and had to pay to have it fixed. I am far ahead financially by skipping it, but it depends on how hard you are on your products and peace of mind. If I drop my M4 and broke the screen I'd likely just buy another.

I bought AC+ for my 13" M4. I take excellent care of my Apple toys. However, accidents happen and hardware can go bad. Even though I can afford to pay for a repair if needed, paying $129 + a nominal service charge is a lot cheaper than a full price repair. I also like being able to get an express replacement if needed.

No, I did not get AppleCare+. My credit card has both extended warranty for 1 extra year as well as mobile device insurance for theft/loss/accidental damage for 2 years (pro-rated at 2% depreciation per month).

Check your credit card insurance policies. Here's the policy for my Amex, which covers Watches, iPads, and iPhones:

It's a personal choice. AppleCare, like any insurance, is about managing risk.

I generally buy AppleCare for the devices that I've had issues with in the past - iPhones and the Apple Watch. I've used AC to replace screens, batteries, etc over the years, so I continue to buy it for those devices. I've owned multiple laptop and desktop computers and never bought AC for them.

I've owned the original iPad, gen 2 and gen 3 iPads, as well as every version of the iPad mini... I bought AC for the first gen iPad because it was new, and I wasn't sure how I'd use it - and where I'd use the iPad. Turns out I never needed the AC... and have not bought it for any iPad since.

However, given the price of the M4 iPads, and the out of warranty price for screen repairs, I probably would get that insurance. YMMV.

Nothing wrong having an insurance policy (AC). That’s the way I look at it.

If your device is at low risk, as in you are the sole user and the device is mostly in one place (like a desk or almost never leaves your home) then you might give AppleCare a pass. My iPads almost never leave the house and I’m the only one who uses it. And in all these years I have dropped an iPad maybe two or three times, and they were in a case and did not fall a great height. Indeed it was more like the iPad slipped from my grip and I fumbled with it so it actually fell no more than about a foot off the floor.

I have never put AppleCare on my iMacs given they stay in one place and I was the only user. Recently, though, I did purchase AppleCare on my M3 iMac primarily because I had never bought anything refurbished before and I wanted a little extra piece of mind, but previously none of my Macs have ever given me a spot of trouble requiring service.

However, if I were purchasing a desktop Mac or iPad that other people were using then I would consider the risk factor that not everyone might be as careful as yourself then I would likely purchase AppleCare.

A phone is a different story. We take our phones everywhere and thus it’s at greater risk of being dropped or whatever else. Granted, like my iPads, I have rarely fumbled and dropped my phones over the years, but AppleCare is worth the added piece of mind.

Yes, I’d recommend it. 1 screen replacement makes it worth it as those OLED screen are ££££££££££

I got AppleCare for my iPads because
a) I do take them out with me quite frequently, and
b) the repair/battery replacement prices without AppleCare are quite steep here.

I intend to keep them a long time and I’m somewhat worried that I’ll need a new battery on at least one of them at some point. So at the very least this provides some peace of mind.

As Warped9 mentions, use case is a determinant. As I travel a fair bit, and by car, bus, train, and airplane (I try to avoid boats… 🤢) I broke down and got Apple Care this time. I’m also nervous about the potential impact of the keyboard case on the screen…

If I get it at all it’s usually the two year plan. After this it’s depreciated so much that it’s not worth doing longer. An avp or Mac Pro or bells and whistle mbp could be different.

I always get AppleCare+ for anything with a screen—and this is especially true for the M4 iPad Pro 13 inch.

In most cases, I haven’t used it. However, right after my iPad mini 6 passed the one year mark, I dropped it on the tile floor of my bathroom. It struck the tile directly on a corner and the screen shattered. At first, I forgot that I had gotten AC+ for it (because the mini was relatively inexpensive to replace), so I figured I was out the $650 it would cost to replace the mini. But I was REALLY happy to find I did have coverage. Fast forward a couple of days—I had a brand new mini (not a refurb unit) in my grubby little mitts in exchange for the shattered one and all I was out was $50. I was a believer before, but I’m a real believer now!

And unlike @cardfan, I typically get monthly or annual auto-renew coverage and maintain it for as long as I own the device—think of it as battery insurance and peace-of-mind insurance. Although my M4 iPP has replaced my 2018 iPP as my daily driver, I‘m still paying the relatively small monthly amount to keep coverage on the 2018 iPP—and will do so for as long as AAPL will let me. As always, YMMV.

I have monthly AC+ on my 1TB 5G M1 iPP.

To me, $7.99/mo for AC+ with $50 deductible is a lot more palatable than $799(+tax) out of warranty replacement or $2000+ to buy a brand new device.
