One way to think of it is as insurance. If you are in a position where you couldn't afford to lose your laptop due to hardware failure, then probably you should get Applecare. I haven't bought Applecare on my computer, but I did buy warranty on my washing machine - I wouldn't be able to make do without a functioning washing machine, but I can just about cope without my computer. Everyone's situation is different, though most people take out more insurance than they need.

Having said all that, I really can't see a good reason to buy AppleCare before necessary, ie 11 months after purchase. If you wait, you can put the money in a high interest savings account now and buy yourself a beer to celebrate your computer's first bithday. :)

lol that's a good point, I think I'll do it that way

I have taken my mac in to the apple store at least once every other month with a problem. I didn't get it, but I'm going to as soon as I get the money. They completely cover repairs for 3 years? Yeah, I'm getting it. My PC's went out every year, and I don't want that to happen with my Macbook and be stuck with it.

Sometimes the problem with waiting is that people will say "I will buy it within the year" and then they forget and then next thing they know it is over the 1st year and their machines dies, and they are screwed.

Also, if you don't buy it right away, after your 90-Days Complimentary Tech Support if you call Apple, you may have to pay $49US when you call them with an issue.

If you are buying the computer, and you are financing it over like a 12 months no payments, no interest, or 3 months, or whatnot, get it then, it won't add much to your monthly payments...

I definitely would recommend AppleCare, I sold them for a lot of years and the old "Macs don't break down" is always good for a laugh, especially when they didn't invest on it for their Power Mac G5/Mac Pro for like $299.99CAD (and it would cover an ACD), and then something would die.....Not a huge cost to invest in such a costly machine..

Definitely get it, especially considering you're buying a laptop. (I never get insurance for Desktops, yet, I've never bought a Mac Pro, so that might happen some time :D).

As someone said before, you don't need to buy it with the MacBook/Pro, get it once the normal warranty is about to end.

Good luck on whatever you decide.

I think with any portable aka laptop, etc its always an extremely good idea to get an extended manufacture warranty to go along with it. It will most likely help pay for itself as portables are prone to hardware failure rates much higher then desktop systems simply because of the fact they are always being moved around and see extra wear and tear.

It really is worth spending a few extra bucks to protect your thousand + computer.

if you have a laptop. buy it, extended warranty is KEY in all portable computers, apple or other.
