I had AC on my 2008 iMac and the screen got replaced 2 1/2 years into the warranty. I've extended the use of that device for another 3 years. It would have cost me double the amount I paid for AC to replace the same screen without.

My 2012 iMac however was used and couldn't get AC. So far, no issues with it after it already exceeded 3 years *knock on wood*

I just got a 15" MBP yesterday and fully intend to get the AC. With everything soldered nowadays, it's more expensive and cumbersome to do it without AC.

However, like many have said, it's a personal preference thing.

AC is definitely insurance, but these things seem break regularly. Given I have a 2015 rMBP 15 (4 weeks old) with dGPU which has already had some incidences of weird screen flashing, I am thinking I will be using Apple service sooner, and more often, than I expected.

Don't worry. Apple will launch an Extension Program for Video Issues for the 2014 & 2015 MacBook Pro 15" after a class action lawsuit.

I bought it cause I thought it would cover the usual stuff but that was before I read the fine print as I should have.

That and couple with the fact that I baby my electronics for the first year makes it not worth it cause that is when I should be the roughest with it and use the warranty if something breaks then baby it after the warranty expires.
