Have to wait another 5 years unfortunately for the next election. God knows what state the country will be in by then.

Yeah, that's the thing.

I'm in Canada and was going to do my 50th in Vegas with family, but I've since cancelled that. If everything in a weird fantasy is sunshine and roses, I'll go back. Until then, my next vacation will likely be to Tokyo Disneyland instead of Disneyworld. It might be interesting to just watch it all burn from afar.

The cost of Apple goods will be interesting to watch.

I wonder how many Apple customers who are so outraged about Cook's personal donation to trump will now standup and purchase competitor tech products and phones going forward, sending Apple a strong message?

Or will they instead look the other way and choose to be complicit and continue to use and purchase Apple products?
What competitor? Microsoft donated also. Which is equally disgusting.

As opposed to Biden, who's been peddling his last name for decades & whose family members have been flexing his name to curry favors & bags of cash and when caught gives unprecedented pardons to sweep the issue under the rug right?
Not even remotely opposed to Hunter Biden who did exactly as you said, peddled his relationship to his Dad to get clients and jobs. In fact, very similar to that except that these things will now be orchestrated directly out of the Whitehouse. The difference between the two is that President Trump is directly involved in the deals that go through his companies and the companies of his kids and also the Trumps don't just hint at possible advantages so they can get a $600,000 a year job (which is what Hunter Biden got paid for his Ukrainian energy company Board Seat). They play this game at a much higher level that is fully coordinated between the entire Trump family, with President Trump calling the shots.

Tim Cook donated $1 million to Trump's inaugural fund because Cook wants America to be an oligarchy. Cook wants the president to use taxpayer money to pay for corporate tax cuts and corporate welfare.

I've been saying all along that Cook is a greedy corporate scumbag, and the first post in this thread is proof of that.

I'm sure the Tim Cook apologists will make excuses for him, saying he has a fiduciary duty to maximize profits for shareholders, as if that is the pinnacle of morality. How is that a greater moral good than helping less fortunate ordinary people who need help?

Scum like Trump (and Harris) oppose free healthcare and free college education by saying it's "socialism," but they are totally fine with socialism for corporations. And Cook donated $1 million to make sure that continues.

I don’t really have an issue with how any of you here choose to spend your money, and it’s always amusing to see people throwing a moral outrage over how other people (wholly unrelated to them) choose to spend their money.

This strikes me as the least a CEO of a company faced with impending import taxes could do - try to mitigate it before it becomes a reality. I am pretty sure that if Tim Cook had done nothing and sales of Apple products got impacted, you would also be here claiming that Apple is doomed and Tim Cook needs to step down.

In short, I believe that Tim Cook is going to get criticised regardless of what he does, so may as well take the heat doing something that would benefit the company he is in charge of steering (and which employs hundreds of thousands of employees) vs trying to appease the whims of some random Macrumours forum user.

I mentioned earlier why I believe Tim Cook remains the best person to lead Apple for the next four years. If you aren’t happy, you are free to toss your Apple products.

Oh wait….

Good.

Biden has been a half decade nightmare. He has done less than nothing for USA.

Almost as if he intentionally sabotaged the country...
On top of bringing down the post COVID inflation(which a huge bulk of high prices have been repeatedly found to just be corporate greed, not actually inflation caused) faster than nearly any other 1st world country he's done a couple of things.
  1. Passed the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package (which Republicans voted against then used as bragging point in their home states about amazing accomplishments they did. Nah, not hypocritical at all)
  2. More than 500 million life-saving COVID-19 vaccinations in the arms of Americans through the American Rescue Plan (Trump was confirmed having sent vaccinations to Russia when needed here in the US)
  3. Stopped a 30-year streak of federal inaction on gun violence by signing the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act
  4. Made a $369 billion investment in climate change, the largest in American history, through the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022
  5. Cut child poverty in half through the American Rescue Plan
  6. Capped prescription drug prices at $2,000 per year for seniors on Medicare through the Inflation Reduction Act
  7. Passed the COVID-19 relief deal
  8. Achieved historically low unemployment rates after the pandemic caused them to skyrocket
  9. Imposed a 15% minimum corporate tax on some of the largest corporations in the country, ensuring that they pay their fair share, as part of the historic Inflation Reduction Act
  10. Assassination of the Al Qaeda head Ayman al-Zawahiri
  11. Gave Medicare the power to negotiate prescription drug prices
  12. Boosted the budget of the Internal Revenue Service by nearly $80 billion to reduce tax evasion and increase revenue
  13. Created more jobs in one year (6.6 million) than any other president in U.S. history
  14. Reduced healthcare premiums under the Affordable Care Act by $800 a year as part of the American Rescue Plan
  15. Signed the PACT Act to address service members’ exposure to burn pits and other toxins
  16. Signed the CHIPS and Science Act to strengthen American manufacturing
  17. Reauthorized the Violence Against Women Act through 2027
But yeah he hasn't done a single thing....at least that's what you'd think if you only listen to FOX and ONN.

EDIT: few more things - Facts do not care about your opinion of feelings.
The uninsured went down by 2.1 percentage points or 6.6 million people.
Corporate profits are up 36%.
The number of people receiving food stamps has decreased by more than half a million.
The S&P 500 has increased 42.9%.
Apprehensions of those trying to cross the southern border illegally are up 273%
U.S. economy has continued to expand under Biden, growing at 2.8%
unemployment rate dropped back and has stayed lower, longer than at any time during the previous administration.

Between Jan 2016 and Jan 2020 Gas went up an average of 58 cents. From Jan 2020 to Present day gas is only up 50 Cents. A fact to keep in mind is that during COVID gas sales, and therefore prices, were down due to less travelers. Pre-Covid gas under Trump was already up 64 cents from Jan-16 to Jan-18 and was on track to be up over 85 cents by Jan-19 when COVID hit and drove the price back down.

Because I quoted Trump having anything good to say about people who were marching in a Nazi rally?

If that's discrediting in your eyes, you just discredited your entire belief system with that ridiculous rebuke ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/trump-very-fine-people/ stahp, just stahp. even the left-leaning snopes eventually had to tell the truth about the "very fine people" hoax. even cnn fact checked biden about it during his debate against trump, before he was swiftly removed from running for office in '24.

Give us the whole quote, then.

Maybe include the part where he completely and explicitly excludes people with those values? Maybe that he was talking about the people protesting for or against the statue removal?

But no -- you'd rather give us a snippet then pretend he's saying something he isn't. People repeating this one either know better and are lying, or have been lied to and went along with it without question.

This video exposes Tim Cook's anti-union actions, which align well with Trump's plutocratic agenda:

IT WAS A NAZI RALLY BRO. Stop twisting yourself into a pretzel to defend a Nazi rally!

If you're marching alongside people chanting "Jews will not replace us" and holding torches, you're on the wrong side. Period, done.

If you 'condemn' Nazis on one hand while cheering on their cause on the other, you're defending them.

Speaking of living in fictional bubbles...

trump appointed the first gay cabinet member? Really? Who did trump appoint?
Richard Grenell, I believe. I think he's part of the incoming admin, too.

And let's not forget he nominated Tammy Bruce yesterday. I don't see his history on the issue being any worse than others.

I mean honestly if the man knew how to speak in a coherent fashion, he would have been clear on his intended meaning to start with. Then again, a SMART person wouldn't have said that at all and thought before speaking to ensure that his intention and meaning was properly understood.

He speaks on the level of my dad that failed out of public school in the 70's and is, literally, barely able to read or write, is dyslexic, can barely spell and spent his whole life working in a factory because he was to embarrassed of his literacy level to accept a promotion to the offices in fear people would learn he was illiterate. He constantly has to ask Siri on his phone how to spell words just to send legible text messages.

The fact a PRESIDENT that went to Ivy League colleges and supposedly spends lots of time negotiating literally reminds me of my dad terrifies me.

Hell Biden is dyslexic but still speaks with a clear meaning and though than Trump. He studders, but when you READ what he said he sounds like he knows what he's talking about. If you READ Trumps rambles, he sounds like a scatterbrained moron.

Trump only nominated him, he was never confirmed, and he was only acting for 3 months. If you want to go by that standard then Demetrios Marantis beat him in 2013 when Obama appointed him as acting U.S. Trade Representative for a brief time.

Gross. 🤮 Hope that buys Apple a lot of favors.
This is why I don’t take sides in politics or waste energy defending any of them. They are all the same, serving their masters—the elites and corporations. In the end, we have an illusion of democratic choice, but the candidates are ultimately appointed by the establishment.

you're once again ignoring the fact that trump did not praise the nazis at the rally in his speech. in fact, he condemned them, and then moved on to the "fine people line," which had nothing to do with the nazis.

speaking of antisemitism, it has been on the rise from the left in the past year and a half or so, after israel's conflict in gaza. it's not the alt-right marching through the streets with palestinian flags, calling for violence against the jews.

is this supposed to be sarcasm?

biden is brain dead. he has been brain dead before he took office in 2020 (edit: 2021). the guy was kept in his basement, and had the mainstream media and other big politicians campaigning for him, but for some reason the same thing didn't work for harris. his mental decline became so apparent that even the mainstream media wasn't able to cover for him, and people like pelosi, obama, and even george clooney, who is an actor (an actor!) had influence over biden getting the boot from his second presidential run. there's so much video proof of him being incompetent out there now, but people seem to wilfully ignore it. contantly being led by the hand, walking off into bushes, falling up the stairs, confusing another woman for his wife, falling asleep during meetings, referring to trump as his vice president, referring to harris as president. he even had trouble letting go of liz cheney's hand for some odd reason a few days ago. there's way more of such behavior. no sane person behaves like this. the guy even spent over 500 days on vacation, while being the president of the united states. what's up with that? it's not like he's doing manual labor work.

Because you are quoting half of what he said. His full quote was “there were fine people on both sides. I’m not talking about the Neo Nazis and white supremacists because they should be condemned completely.”

If you’re gonna quote a line like that you should at least know the whole line because it’s honestly ridiculous that you even mentioned that.
The entire side was Neo-Nazis, THAT’S THE POINT. The rally was literally organized by them! Jesus.

Some of the comments here are unfortunately emotional and not logical reactions.

This is a no-brainer decision on his part. As a chief executive officer who has a ***fiduciary duty*** to maximize shareholder value, it’s also the “right” decision. Morality and ethics isn’t really relevant, despite how you might feel.

Let’s be clear here. BILLIONS are spent on political campaigns, lobbying, etc. every single year, the majority of which comes from PACs to curry favor with politicians. And this doesn’t even count the money spent on soft influence, such as taking a legislator or someone on the Hill to a Nats game or a pricey dinner or on a trip.

This is kinda a non-story. Doesn’t matter whether you’re far left or far right. It’s just a different flavor of the same business-as-usual ice cream.

‘Murica.

Don’t be ridiculous. CEO’s of publicly traded companies do not have a fiduciary duty to spend their own money to bribe heads of various governments.

At best your argument is for why Apple should donate to Trump…which is not what happened…
