It all depends on the batch but NEC have been consistently slow in this area over the last 3 years or so. Probably using similar components across models.
I really don't think it matters when accuracy and color are involved at all. More when you are turning very quick 90º in first person shooters and other quick games. In fact from what I have seen the best pro photo display's are usually very slow. So when you can find one that has little lag + >6ms my eyebrows raise.

That makes sense. They're different design priorities. I am not much of a gamer though. I spend enough time at the computer as it is:mad:.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

I know with a display the important thing is the quality of the screen rather than the housing but there's nothing wrong with something that looks as good when turned off as well as on. This setup is going in the study at home rather than in an office, otherwise I'd probably go Eizo.

I took a look at the new Dell displays in person but whilst the image quality is very good I found them far too plasticky. It's a shame since I remember the older Dell 3008WFP being a very well made screen. The U3011 seems more cheaply made in comparison. I guess Dell's average customer isn't particularly keen on paying more for good design which is understandable but a pity since Apple need competition on that front. Even Eizo, who were my first choice (my old trinity of 3x 21" Eizo T965 CRTs was something to behold!) are putting out disappointingly boxy devices these days.

I managed to borrow an Apple Cinema Thunderbolt Display and used it for a full day of coding and photo editing. I experienced no eye strain and found the size a lot less overwhelming than the 30" Dell. I've pulled the trigger on three Apple LED Cinema displays which should work nicely with the new Radeon 5770 ordered.

I'm putting my Dell 2405FPWs out to pasture, they served me well but the backlight's fading and they're a chore to calibrate. Once again thanks for all the help!
