You might be surprised. Go check "manage your plan/wireless" like Illini Al said.

Ignore the 5 lines part.

I did that and it was almost $140

Correct, but are you sure it will "substantially" more. Go online to manage your plan, and start (but don't finish) the process to upgrade your plan to see how much more it will cost you each month.
I have been on the phone all afternoon with AT&T and they cant make up their minds. first they say the plan doesnt matter, its the device, then they change their mind and say "no, you do have to have unlimited plan", then they change their mind again and say that it doesnt matter. I talked to 3 different people and they all did the same thing. I dont think they know for sure if they can keep you from accessing a 5G signal or not based on what plan you have.

They did say, however, that you do have to have a NEW sim card - that the old sim cards will not access the 5G.

Ouch! The large difference was driven by two things-
- You currently share only 6 GB across two devices.
- You only have 2 devices. The unlimited plans become less per person when you have more people.
If you don't need more than the 6GB, it makes no sense to bump up to unlimited just for the $800 credit. That credit will be negated by your higher plan costs after 14 months.

I currently have a 3-person 20GB Mobile Share plan. I can go to "Unlimited Starter" for only $5 more per month (total, not per person). I'm just not sure if that Unlimited Starter plan will qualify me for the $800. I'll find out once this thing gets going.

So, you understand my frustration then.

Yes - see my post above where I talked about being on the phone with them all afternoon. I hate AT&T, but I get a discount through my work that I lose if I go to another carrier.
Make sure to ask AT&T to apply for COVID-19 relief discount on all the lines you'll save another $10 each line. Along with signing up with paperless billing and Auto pay. That saves you another $20.00.

I did chat with AT&T and they said any unlimited plan qualifies, however I was reading the offer details on their website and it’s showing an unlimited plan min $75 - so at least extra or elite

ETA: Nevermind, the $75 minimum is only for new Unlimited customers

Yes, I'm hoping I qualify with any Unlimited Plan because I'm not a new customer. I'd only be new to the Unlimited Plan.

See att.com/unlimited for current unlimited plans. Retired unlimited plans may also qualify (excluding prepaid, session-based, and Data Unlimited at $45/mo. plans).

this is what the fine print says. I’m sure you’ll be fine as all of the unlimited plan has 5G.

They did say, however, that you do have to have a NEW sim card - that the old sim cards will not access the 5G.
That kind of make sense too. I remember back in the day when I was on AT&T, I had to get a new sim card for the 6 Plus despite that I already had a compatible sim card then. I would think that might be the case. You can still use your existing sim but then don't have the 5G capable? I may just buy sim-free still and go with putting my current verizon service on the e-sim.

You only get the option to "pre-load" your order if you're paying in installments.
I don’t think they are doing this yet for the iPhone 12 Pro Max. I guess we will have to wait until a few days before pre-orders. I have paid off my XS Max on 1UP so I guess I have to start over on 1UP for the 12 Pro Max next month

So, I was going to buy this phone, but AT&T wont let you even access 5G unless you upgrade to unlimited plan. Right? thats Bull. My wife and I dont use a lot of Data. we are on a 6gb shared plan. unlimited plans will cost substantially more every month. Am I misunderstanding?
I wonder if AT&T will make me get a new plan? I’m giving my daughter my XS Max. Can I put her 8+ sim into the XS Max? I guess I can put the XS Max sim into my 12 Pro Max? Luckily on our account we have free activation! Our daughter, my husband and I have an account together. Complicated!
