I bought the 256 on the X a few years ago and noticed the same thing. I think mine topped out at 90gb and the bulk of that was playlists that I had downloaded from Apple Music and some movies. Once I got rid of most of it I was left at 55 GB and from then on went with 64.

HAH!!! I know someone that bought small. They could never see needing more storage.
Then, they got a job. And needed a bigger iPhone. Buy big, if you can afford it. If nothing else, it makes the resale/trade-in value better. I've got a 10s max, at the max, and found a way to use all that space after I retired. I could still put more music on it. And videos, and a few movies. And more apps I'll never ever use.🤦🏻♂️
I have an iPod Touch that was the largest at the time, and it's too small. Yikes...

If you get a lot of packages like I do it’s worth the $19.99. I have it for free until 1/1/21. I’m trying to change the delivery date for my Apple Silicon case to be delivered on Wednesday or even Friday, because I will be at work all day the day before the holiday, but I keep getting a error message to try again. My case shipped this morning.
I always went with 256GB starting with my X. This is how much storage I’m using on my XS Max, and I ordered 256GB for my Pro Max.

I'm curious as to what order fulfillment looks like. Does anyone know if they send in batches by color/size/type or if it is in the sequence that orders are received? Just curious. I'll be happy whenever my phone arrives next Fri. Apple's shipping hasn't failed me yet.
