Apple should have accepted trade in. Don't know how much Apple would have offered for trade in. Not sure whether it will change in the future. Meanwhile waiting for new Vision Pro in more countries.

What apple is saying to her customers, who spend 5000.- or more, "we sold you CRAP, and no we will NOT take it back"
And it looks like the next one is crap too. Because more and more apple importers refuse to sell it. Like Holland and Belgium even refused the first vision now refusing to sell the second one, and dont give you support on it.
And what IS the "new" vision pro? According to apple "faster then this, faster then that". And excuse they normaly reserve to raise prices for a prodcuct. Inovation?

Developer strap? That sounds perverted in the context with the no trade in value for customers.
Yeah, it's required for an optimal experience, you can wirelessly debug but that's bad enough for all the other devices tbh. Otherwise, they could have just put a USB C port on it...

Looking at the recent stories, if they paint an accurate picture, it's a bit hard to not be a little down on Apple right now. Apple won't take the first gen AV on trade on anything, iPhone 17 Air sales are virtually non-existent. Apple's A20 chip will be 'significantly' more expensive. Apple's flagship iPhones may have an issue with the anodizing. GM dropping CarPlay in all vehicles. UK putting more demands on Apple, to which Apple will likely cave.

I'm not saying that Apple is going anywhere anytime soon, but things just don't seem to be trending in the right direction right now as I see it.
That and companies like Meta seem to be heading in the right direction with Apple playing catch up. Also, AI etc... it's a weird mess that Apple is in right now.

The most important word here is indeed.. IF.

Remember, stories are just that - stories... and it wouldnt take much effort to collate a similar set of 'things' to say about any other company. Samsung, for example, have just discontinued their ultra slim phone after just a few months on sale.

As a very happy owner of an Air, and knowing the very positive comments from other actual Air owners, I would be surprised if that rather exaggerated statement of 'iPhone Air sales are virtually non-existent' was anything near true - remembering they sold out in China when launched. Sure, the specs of the Air put it 'behind' the pro but dont forget some people like myself couldn't really care less about the single speaker, lower batter life, and single camera system and the overall package of the Air is the most compelling of the line up this year.

Im no Apple apologist, but I dont see this 'trend' - no more than usual and no more than any other company.

Meta is selling Quest units at a loss.

  • Meta reported its second-quarter earnings on Wednesday and revealed that Reality Labs logged an operating loss of $4.53 billion while recording $370 million in sales during the period.

The very reason I said, 'if'. But 'if' I add my own anecdotes to the observation, I purchased innumerable apple products since 1991, going all the way back to an Apple II, Newton, so many laptops, iPads, Minis for both desktops and servers, every annual iteration of iPhone from the first to my current 15PM, every flavor of iMac starting with the original Bondi Blue, built a classroom with macs at group home in Central America, and have spent hundreds of thousands of $$ on macs for business and not-for-profit over the years. That doesn't even touch the airports, iPods, mice, keyboards, cases, etc that would total in the multiple thousands of $$. You will find few who are more apple-centric than am I (even to this day). Before, you could hardly hold me back from buying a new Apple product. The last few years it has been a, "Well, if I must..." These days I bleed things out until Apple doesn't support them any longer. That's not me losing my interest; it's Apple losing its luster. Before I had to do everything possible to keep my materialism in check. Now, IMO, Apple makes it easy. I guess in that regard I am thankful. My early adoption has always found a way to get me in trouble. No longer a problem. The geeky side of me still kinda wishes it was.

On a related note, I have always loved Orange. I just traded my previous Honda for a Passport in Sunset Orange. Because I am also a huge coffee drinker, I customized an Orange bottle to go with it. When I first saw the orange 16PM, I was hyped. Then found it was going to be aluminum. Then discovered there really wasn't anything other than the color to be excited about. Just more incremental change.

So, my orange Yeti sits alone on my desk... and Apple is simply another tool for me.

This decision must be because of hygiene reasons.

However it’s not great and burns bridges with existing owners who are now less likely to buy the new model.

The AVP is neither produced nor priced for people who require a trade in to afford to upgrade. It doesn't burn bridges the way you think it does.

I was considering getting the Vision Pro M5 but now I am hesitant after seeing this post.

You don't need to upgrade. The M2 works fine. The M5 has better performance. It is noticeable when using an app like Spatial Media Toolkit. And, I haven't noticed any of little video glitches that infrequently happen with my M2. Only upgrade if you have the cash to burn.

I don't have the M2. I was waiting for the first upgrade before purchasing one. I am just realizing that what happened to M2 owners will happen to M5 owners if I decide to upgrade and a better and cheaper Vision Pro comes out in a year and I can't trade it and get some money for it.

Curious if anyone reading has bought the M5 model after using the M2 model. Specifically have you noticed any noteworthy changes with the Mac Virtual Display mode?

I am curious because when I read points like "crisper text" that would be the primary motivation for upgrading since I bought the M2 AVP for productivity. Unfortunately, I was getting headaches when using Virtual Display. Whereas I can watch videos for hours without any problems. If I am just using it to watch videos, then it is an expensive toy and I don't have money to burn on an upgrade. However, "If" it solves the headaches, then I can start using it on a daily basis as originally planned.
