Does this mean only MacBooks shipped with an SSD are compatible, or is my mid-2010 MBP with an aftermarket SSD that I installed going to support this new feature?

He gave several examples on his post. The typing indicator in Messages for instance has been available in iChat for ages. How is that a new feature or even anything "new" worth noticing for that matter?

The feature almost certainly requires some kind of chipset specific function, as it needs to run while keeping the computer in its lowest power state. Most existing laptops would probably just think they're in use again and start spinning up fans etc.That's weak Apple, super weak...
