Surprised to see so many users that had this and then buy another pair.. F Apple on this. Like I am going to buy ANOTHER paid but a "V2?" - Plenty of options to choose from in this segment.

Both my sister and I developed the rattling problem in our APPs. The Apple Store in Orlando told her she had “water damage” and couldn’t replace the units even though they qualified for the program. She ended up buying the 2nd Gen APPs. I was able to get mine replaced at the Naples Apple Store by luck (they couldn’t find a purchase date so they had to make up one to complete the repair). So I got both earpieces replaced and wouldn’t you know within 6 months the replacements were rattling again, except this time I was beyond the 3 year mark for service. I used my 1st Gen APPs in “regular” mode for a while, and just got 2nd Gens last month.

It’s truly a disaster by Apple how they handled this.

Had this issue as well. It actually hurt my hearing and I ended up moving to Bose.

I do think the firmware automatically updating is kinda a big deal. Maybe I might have been okay?

Apple replaced mine three times under Apple Care +, but they all eventually developed the issue. My Apple Care plan has since expired, leaving me with unusable AirPods.

AirPod max also they heard it took it to repair then said no issues sent back still crackling and wind noise

Had this happened with my APP. Got them replaced under the program only to have the replacements eventually do the same.

Ended up buying APP2 for sale at Costco. And those have been fine since then.

Wow, all these comments. I hope this goes forward.

My APP1s had a minor static issue that only happened during calls. I got them replaced through the program, and then, after the program had ended, the noise cancellation in one side failed in much more dramatic fashion (the loud static version of the problem). I guess I'm lucky that they're still usable so long as I never turn on ANC/transparency, but it really soured me on what has otherwise been one of Apple's best "just works" products.

Maybe the case will be settled just in time for claimants to get a steep discount on APP3...

Yep, I remember this. I ended up eBaying my second pair, concluding the true start of the AirPods era would take a little more patience.

I hope they win because it happened to both myself and my wife. I was able to get mine replaced, but hers were just outside the window because Apple pulled that limited time fix BS. I'd like a rebate of half the retail price of the APP2s we were both eventually forced to buy.

APP Gen 1 were garbage. Part of the problem was the inner grille/vent design that placed it against your ear. It's pretty much guaranteed to eventually clog up with oil and earwax, and the headphones stop working properly once that happens. In Gen 2, they wised up and moved the grille to the top of the buds instead.

Sign me up as well.. I will not purchase another AirPod product or recommend due to this. Very disappointing. Will gladly hand mine over for a new pair. Was too late when I realized there was a program to repair/replace them and missed out.

I had this issue with my first gen, brought to apple store they told me this specific issue and told me the replacement period is already over thus it is no longer covered, proceeded to try to ask me to pay $200 for a repair or just buy the 2nd gen.

What kills me is people here throwing off a huuuuge shrug when Apple stops honoring the warranty on the APP1 and buying the APP2. Why on earth would you buy the same brand again after that experience?? It’s like an abusive relationship, but you keep going back because “this time he’s changed.” I don’t need to be burned more than once to learn a lesson like that. Yeah my APP1 sucked and had this issue. I babied them. And when Apple wouldn’t stand behind an obvious manufacturing flaw any longer I walked away and got some Sonys that sound incredible. (That’s setting aside the ANC and transparency they nerfed on the original).

Had my 1 gen AirPods Pro sent in for repair as well. Thought i was crazy when i just started hearing it again recently. Good to know I’m not alone. Looks like APP2 are the way to go.

Serious question: Why would you buy another pair?

I actually liked the noise cancellation and didn’t mind the sound of them. They fit my ears pretty well too. (I’m told i have big earholes haha).

I guess i haven’t looked too much at other products. Any you would recommend?

There are some great options no matter what your budget is. Sony has some dynamite-sounding buds. Same for Senheiser, Technics, Bose. So many options that have expansive sound and amazing isolation. I’d read some reviews to focus on on what’s in your price range- and what features you prioritize.

Have the same problem.. hope they win it so we can exchange it
Edit: and ANC stopped working like 6months ago.. only works if I fiddle when in ear, using them without ANC.. tried cleaning them ofcourse
“It just works “

Add me to the list. Another AirPod Pro gen 1 owner with crackling in the left earbud. I can usually get it to go away by taking it out of my ear and putting it back in, but it sure is annoying.

I’ll await my .50 payout to use towards a new pair.

The ANC also stopped working in mine. I wasn’t completely sure bc I never thought it was all that great to begin with, but they replaced them and it was 100% not working.
