So i sent my computer in because it has the notorious buzzing noise which most 1st gen macbook pros have, and apple reformmated by harddrive.

Can someone please explain how reformatting a harddrive can fix this problem?

i now have none of my old documents, photos, or music, and am highly agitated.

Is this why you're trying to find out how much you can sell it for in another thread??? Because you're agitated? So the law school story was just that - a story?

duh, but thats why they have industry contracts so apple should handle the warranty problems.

Duh... that's besides the point...

That is why no one should ever expect ANYTHING MADE BY MANKIND to work properly forever or even after you buy it. Everything has a defect and nothing is ever made perfectly. Things will break and fail.

The original pretense of the post was in reply to someone saying that Apple should build their machine to "Pro" specs. That isn't very logical given that much of the hardware doesn't come from Apple and even if it did there is no way for Apple to garantee that the machine was manufactured perfectly or will continue to operate under normal usage while in the care of the user. That is why there is a warrantee, and why Apple doesn't fix user damages machines.

When another poster claimed that Apple should design better machines and gave a "comparison" of Ford cars, i replied with the fact that Ford get many of their components from other venders just like Apple and much of the tech world. Intel gets its silicon from another manufacturer... just like Apple gets their mboards from Intel, their HDDs from Hitachi, Western Digital, Seagate, and others, and their RAM from samsung and others.

Please read the other posts so you can understand the whole story... let's not turn this into a "you're an idiot" ... "you're a fathead" conversation...

yes, I made up some extravagant lie. Actually, I am quite agitated about this harddrive problem, and at the same time, agitated that no law schools have mac software. I can either hope my law schools sacs up and purchases the mac software, or I can sell this computer and buy a nice windows, or I can keep it and buy a cheap dell. how do the two threads even relate?

isnt the point of making threads to get advice from other people in the community, which is what I have done in both instances?

Why would they need to erase the harddrive. if they are computer pros they should of just taken out the harddrive put in one of theirs and then did their tests. Any fool can take out a harddrive.
Really, any fool? Why would would anyone go to all the trouble to take apart a MBP to swap out the HD just to do some testing when they could do the same thing in just a couple of minutes by reformatting the HD?

Uh, the sound is very obvious. I also had my MacBook in for repair three times, the last time they switched the logic board and said that it won't get better than that. It was still as loud as before. So, to me, Apple said the sound was normal. Are people using these computers deaf or something?!

My friend, you're getting the run around. It happens.

Time to escalate.

I work in a computer store, and before we send any 'puters customers bring in for repair back to the manufacture, we give it a quick going over to see if there was any obvious problem that could meet their cause for repair. No sound - possibly because they disabled the sound card. Something like that.

All of these customers leave all their data on their computer. We were amazed to find bank statements on someones desktop for christ sake.

I would never breach the data rights act, but there is people who would.

Just because its Apple, doesn't mean the person who looks at your laptop is a completely honest person.

If you send your laptop to ANYONE for repair, backup your hard drive (easily make a ghost of it) and then wipe it. Will only take a few hours.
