Yes sidebar is helpful. Mixing up included and rental/purchase content when browsing, a la Prime, is very user unfriendly.
Yep, that’s the plan. They don’t want friends. They want “engaged” users.

It’s been going this direction for a while now but it’s pretty blatant at this point that all these streaming apps don’t care what you want to watch, or even what you already bought.

all these new changes with Apple branded instead of iTunes has been a mess, its not getting any cleaner. why there is an AppleTV app ON THE APPLE TV? lol yes I get appletv+ but it shouldn't all be bundled in there appletv+ should just be for appletv+ content. its too confusing to scroll through and understand what I have and don't have and navigating is too much decision fatigue

The Apple TV app is very strange, as is the naming in general -- I have a TV, and I can buy an Apple TV (product) to plug into it, running Apple TV (app), with the option to subscribe to Apple TV+ (also app). Surely not confusing at all!

Many, MANY people believe AppleTV (the app) and AppleTV (the box) are the SAME... thus, if one has AppleTV (the app) on their smart TV, they don't believe the box brings anything else. Terrible naming IMO.

I'm not particularly bothered by either method, but I just really don't want to have to reorganize my whole home screen layout...

How about Apple let us Download content on ATV Consaul. RIiiiiIGHT, then I could download a full 4k Dolby mpg without bandwidth being an issue. (I'm in a low bandwidth area.) If I can't ever download from 3rd party streamers due to logistics like Amazon, then Why can't I at least download iTunes purchases to my Consaul? We used to be able to. Maybe then ATV could compete fully with Blu-ray's quality.
I think the reason we can't download 4k movies is due to contracts with movie studios. Maybe it's a way to prevent piracy. Maybe it's a way Apple has found so it can offer its customers a "free upgrade" from HD to 4k that pleased the studios. I don't know.

Even the trailers app is bad. It makes you go back to the AppleTV app as well. It also seems there are less trailers than there used to be and finding a genre is cumbersome.

The TV app, and by extension the entire OS and hardware, are confusing. I’m an Apple sheep so I bought every iteration. But it’s not wholeheartedly.

Our local cable company offers both a customized Android setup box and an Apple TV with their own app. We have both, and the difference is night and day. The Android experience is smooth, responsive and intuitive. It’s a regular TV with a smart layer added on top.

The Apple TV experience on the hand is awkward at best, but mostly just frustrating. Apps instead of content, awkward swiping and buffering instead of changing channels, guessing what the 6 buttons on the remote do without ever getting any muscle memory, annoying bugs, …

After 15 years, the device still feels like a hobby.

About time, I wonder if the iTunes brand is being rebranded? Long overdue.

Anyone on the GM, have Apple fixed the display of tv shows via the purchased section yet?
The purchased section just started working for me finally after the last update. It had been messed up for over a year with numerous conversations with Apple Support. My library is over 1700 movies and they said larger libraries were the issue. My only solution was using the iTunes Movie app for a LONG time. Now I can see my library in Apple TV finally!

And knowing how Apple drops things at the tip of a hat, you are not really purchasing. You are borrowing for as long as Apple deems profitable. Which considering the nature of purchases, that is not very long at all.
Not sure where you’re coming from with that statement. I’ve bought albums, shows and movies from over a decade ago that are still in my collection. None of them have been removed. Apple is actually pretty great when it comes to media purchases.
