They are replacing your phone, what more do you want? You said there was no physical damage so what’s the harm in waiting 7days for a replacement?

Pick it up, dust it off, put it in pocket, and move on.
Until you need to take the phone in for something else and they look at it see the screen being off a bit or open it and find something loose inside or not quite in the same place and refuse to work on the device because of it.

Not to say that it will happen or is something extremely common, but it certainly can happen and has happened.

The OP doesn't deserve all this hostility. Boards, solder joints and components can crack when something like a phone is dropped onto a hard surface. You cannot trust it once it has been dropped like that. Apple even mention the 6 Plus being dropped onto a hard surface when they're trying to take money off people for the touch disease fix.

If they cannot replace his phone quickly then he should get some compensation for the inconvenience.

Childcare. I'm not lugging two kids under 4 half way across the city on public transport, to then do.. what exactly, while I talk to the grownups to resolve this.

I took my newborn and 4 year old to the apple store a lot and talked to the big grown ups. It’s what moms do every single day. I imagine you can figure it out. Heck..apple couldn’t activate a phone of mine one launch day and I had to come back with my kids at the end of the day...they were maybe 6 months and 4.5 years and I had to be there for about 4 hours while they sorted it and I got nothing for the extra trip that wasn’t my fault and I entertained and nursed the little one and changed diapers. It wasn’t fun but isn’t an excuse. They are being generous and replacing the your phone. Say thank you.

You chose to have kids, and chose to not have a car. Stop whining about your life, the circumstances of which you are responsible for. Never seen someone whine so much about a big bad trip to the store to get a free $500+ device.

To me, the fact that they’re replacing the phone for you should be reason enough that they are acknowledging their own mistake. But I don’t think it’s reasonable to ask for a different color or any other exceptions when they are replacing the iPhone regardless.

I had a similar situation at Bestbuy with an iPad that I purchased through them. The best buy employee felt horrible that it happened and got the manager involved, They offered to replace the device plus give me whatever case I wanted for the hassle. I took the replacement iPad and declined the case part of the offer because, 1. I already had the case I wanted for my iPad and 2. I didn't feel that I was entitled to get anything more than them replacing the device.

So O.P. move on quit thinking you are entitled to anything more than them replacing the phone. Also quit whining because you would have to take your kids with you, whether its public transportation or your own vehicle, that's called being a parent.

God I hate people that think they are entitled.

Okay people. It’s not “apple DROPPED the phone” it’s a pathetic $11hr RETAIL EMPLOYEE who doesn’t give a rats ass about apple.

Quite a generalization, isn't it?
Regardless of the Company I've worked for--I've showed respect towards the Company, the Customers, Coworkers, etc. I know that rings true to many I've worked with (obviously not all in any business).

I think you may have misunderstood that part. I wasn't asking for a different colour in a "Actually I'd rather have black" way. I was suggesting it because my phone lives in a case (except when it is being repaired...) and I literally couldn't give a crap what colour I get. It seems silly if they had, say, a silver one in stock for replacements but I have to wait 7 days for a gold one.

That's how it works in business generally. Sometimes exceptions are made for one reason or another, most of the time they aren't. Nothing really new or surprising or strange or horrible about that rather basic reality.

WTF man? They made a mistake like everybody else from this planet! Eventually they have assumed it and they are giving you the best resolution here.

And no, they will never switch a device with another specification. It doesn't matter that is a size (GB) or colour, it still another specification than what you have.

If you made the mistake how would you feel if you already did your best to help fix it and the person still want more from you?

Try with other company where they don't even switch your device ...

I know it’s a mistake they’re are fixing it. Leave it at that. What’s next emotional distress?

Do you want the employee to get fired. They’re correcting the issue. That’s it.

Talk about entitled.

I got my iPhone 8 Plus battery replaced for $29. They said they “broke something.” My heart sank. But he said, so he’s a new one. I’m like cool! Same model, same capacity, and new. That’s was cool.

You people are adding a lot more to this story than what is in the post and making way too many assumptions.

Should the phone be replaced? Yes. Should it take over a week to replace? No. If there’s no way around that timeframe, it seems perfectly reasonable to be offered some type of compensation or a more accommodating solution (loaner?).

I don’t read entitlement. I read frustration with having to be without a device for 7-10 days, which could be someone’s only phone or computer device through no fault of their own.

You should read this thread again. OP states his phone was not damaged. As in it still works. So what if he has to wait a week for a replacement. He's not without his phone while waiting.

I understand that the phone does not appear to be damaged, but that doesn't mean it isn't, or, as others already stated, will create a problem down the road.

I'm not familiar with whether they let you keep your device after the replacement is ordered. That's why I suggested the loaner device, as if the original device was not still in the owner's possession. (It's never taken that long for me to get a repair/replacement.) If it's the case the current phone is still being used during the waiting period, I don't see much of an issue.

I guess you missed this part....

“Anyway... should I be happy with this, or should I be pushing for more? Ideally they'd be speeding up the process, refunding my battery replacement fee, or giving me an accessory or something to make the wait a bit more palatable. Would asking for one of those make me unreasonable?”

This person is already getting a new phone from the mistake... yet they feel they are “entitled” for more.

I had my iPhone 7 battery replaced today. While collecting it, the employee dropped it on the floor. I saw this, but wasn't sure it was mine. I watched like a hawk until the "collection box" was emptied and sure enough nobody else collected an iPhone 7. The employees didn't raise the issue, and seemed to want to pretend it hadn't happened and hope nobody noticed.

There's no obvious/visible damage, but dropping a phone from that height can't be a good thing? And it's way out of warranty, so I don't want to find out in a day or a week that it's knackered.

The store agreed to replace it, but I have to wait 7-10 days for a new one to arrive. Why can't they replace with a different colour (they insist that it can't be done. What a stupid system!) Anyway... should I be happy with this, or should I be pushing for more? Ideally they'd be speeding up the process, refunding my battery replacement fee, or giving me an accessory or something to make the wait a bit more palatable. Would asking for one of those make me unreasonable?

I guess you could, probably even get the kid fired as a bonus if you wanted to. IMO, depending on my income, meaning if I was well off I'd probably leave it alone, so the kid doesn't get in trouble, more trouble, or possibly fired. It's an older used phone, so it's not the end of the world. Plus, it was in a box when it dropped. It's up to you, you can be a you know what, or shurg it off and realize there's more important things in life then trying to get reperations, because some teenager accidently dropped your phone, and he's probably up to eyeballs in debt because he probably only makes 12 an hour.
