Not having direct access to voice mail from within Smart Dial is what kills it for me. The dialer needs to replace the built-in dialer, having all the major features, or I have to use both. Using both is a major PITA.

And that's an argument I don't follow. Have two icons side by side. For all outbound calls use Smart Dial, if you have a voicemail use the other. No trouble. The only pain is the loss of Homescreen space, which I grant you, is a bit of a pain. But from a functional point of view there is no PITA aspect.

neiltc13: I don't understand what you are trying to say. You launch all kind of application to enhance your iPhone experience. Plenty of apps extends the native ones like email apps, camera apps, map apps are they all useless??

in my opinion yes, i never use these types of applications and find them useless and a waste of time.

I purchased this app and I'm having some issues with it. I have mine set to display my contacts' mobile numbers by default, but for some reason it's not doing that. If I start to type someone's name, it doesn't always bring up their mobile #. For example, when I start typing in my sister's name it brings up her work fax # - that's certainly not useful. If I want to go in and dial her home or mobile # I have to tap on her work fax # to go into her contact information. There should be an easier way to select which # you want to use to dial a contact - maybe an arrow next to the "default" # that comes up that allows you to choose from other #'s you have listed for that contact.

If you find that the fax number is displayed instead of the mobile number, that is certainly a bug. Please contact support@emailmii.net and we can further investigate this.

Sure there is a PITA aspect. Now you have to remember which icon to hit and it introduces the chance of hitting the wrong icon by accident. Also, I like having my dialer in the dock so having two in the dock is a complete waste of space.

It's not the developer's fault, but it is a big problem (PITA) for me. You can't tell what is a PITA for me. It may not be for you, but I am sure others feel the same way.

U can assign no. 1 to voice mail.
This is the default in most of the phone s in the market. ( ofcourse u have to remember that this is the key for voice dail :p)

drgopoos,

Dialing into voicemail not the same as having visual voicemail, now is it?

I bought the app early yesterday to see how it would work for me. Last night I got the update that included speed dial.

I am on the fence as to whether I will use it. Pressing the home button twice to get to my "Favorites" is as fast as open Speed Dial and holding down a number key.

The search feature needs works. It needs to allow searching on first and last names using a space character.

The bottom line is that the only way this app can be really "right" and useful to me is if it has all the features of the standard dialer plus new features.

Another few options available include using application called KATE ( it has built in smart dial ) or using melodis dilaer ( voice smart dial )

Those are not options. KATE is for jailbroken phones and mine is not. Melodis Dialer solves a different problem.

Smart Dial would be almost perfect if he could solve the visual voicemail issue. I don't see that happening anytime soon. So I suspect I wasted 99 cents.....

Then the best way save that 99 cents is by either jaibreaking the phone or may be sent a mail to the developer to refund u r 0.99 $ . He may budge and save u all the misery

And with due respect, why should he (developer) refund 99c? He hasn't misrepresented anything. It is documented that visual voicemail can't be replicated outside of the native app, alongside missed calls. Also, 99c? You could could probably find that on the sidewalk if you look hard enough! ;)

LostLogik and drgopoos,

I wasn't worried about the 99 cents. I knew exactly what features the program didn't have that I wanted when I bought it. It's a good effort and maybe it will become more useful over time. Maybe Apple will take the handcuffs off these developers and Smart Dial will become what it could be. Here's to hoping that my 99 cents helps it get there....

I'd love to know what your experiences are and what you'd suggest as far as which apps are the best for voice dialing since the iPhones strangely do not come with voice dialing so if you have a bluetooth you still need to use your phone to dial...weird.I would be doing most of my voice calling from my vehicle and while i have over 100 contacts there are about 5-10 #s that I call regularly. For that reason, I don't want to pay a bundle for it but would pay some $ based on how good it works. The apps that I'm finding on the iPhone search apps section barely have 3 stars and the reviews are awful! I am hoping there might be some better ones out there....Thanks...!!!

Is this the best Smart Dialing app out there? Tried to search for a demo of it on youtube but didn't find any. Wish these apps have a demo period like a day or two to try out before purchasing. Too bad Apple overlooked the fact that they iPhone is first a phone and then everything else. They seem to have got most other functions good but overlooked smart dialing and SMS/MMS interface.

A good Smart Dialer is the first app I am looking to buy and I want to make sure I don't regret paying for it later.

Some questions I have:
  1. Does this work with 3.0 Beta2?
  • Can we keep 1 key pressed to dial to voice mail?
  • When Smart Dialing brings up contacts names can we choose to send SMS with single action?
  • If the smart dialing brings a person's name does it bring his multiple numbers? Ij John has Cell/Home/Office does he show up three times with Cell/Home/Office numbers? Or does it just have more link next to his name so we choose his numbers there?

Well, I decided to try for $2.99 and find out how good it is. Unfortunately, it did not work on 3.0 beta 2. It starts and closes. Need to wait for fix or try refund. Apps might have trouble if they are not compatible with 3.0.
