So? An OS doesn't need an annual replacement. It's an OS. It has a standard job to do. In what way is it in need of immediate fixing?

Win XP came out in 2001. I used it without complaint until 2010. I am not saying this should be the goal, just that an OS doesn't need constant replacement to be viable.

Agreed. Other than updates for drivers and the bug fixes, I am not seeing a real reason to hurry up and replace 10.6. It works. Though I could do with an updated Mac Pro about now as I am going through our IT budget making process that would be helped by having pricing on them.
