I am pi**ed off! Apple just introduced Apple Air that is more powerful than my iPad Pro 2020. Really cannot understand this. They should include Bionic A14 is iPad Pro. What are your thoughts?

I don’t really care because my pro is already plenty powerful but it is confusing to see the mid range model have a higher number processor than the pro model.

Do we know how the A14 chip compares to the A12Z, what does the Z mean?

Nobody knows. It's a gimmick.

EDIT: According to floor plan analysis by technology patents firm TechInsights, the A12Z Bionic is the same as the A12X chip, but with an extra GPU core enabled.[5][6] AnandTech theorized that the A12Z is a re-binned variant of the A12X, which is a common practice in semiconductor manufacturing, allowing the new chip to perform somewhat better than the previous generation because of slightly higher-quality integrated circuits.[2]

Sure. But to go from a current model on sale twice the price with an A12 in the "pro" version to a mainstream iPad Air half the price with a chip up two generations is not done in my opinion.

No hard feelings here regarding their same move with the iPhone SE and 11 Pro Max.

They‘re within their rights to feature low cost variants that have the same if not better performance as the newest products. I’m within mine to remember that they do this and wait for the lower cost variants in the future and not buy the latest model at full price.

I think most customers will perceive this move by Apple poorly. But they have a history of doing this with the iPad line ... just releasing massive new chip revs without concern for how it positions other products in the lineup.

If had bought a NEW 2020 iPad Pro, I would be somewhat upset. I would have preferred they just wait until the A14 is out rather than get sold a 2 year old chip. But I don't find new iPad's worthwhile anymore, so I tend to go refurb.

With no Pro Apple Software announce (again) then I’d love to know what immediate benefits these faster chips provide.

(That isnt a derogatory question. I was excited for a redesigned Air but I’m just not sure what benefits the a14 provides if Apple still won’t give attention to their existing and missing apps.)
