Apple "needs to", to please you? Hmm?
Yes, this is what companies do. They sell products that customers want. Of course my specific want is not relevant unless it’s shared by tons of thousands or maybe millions of others. This is why there’s not an iPhone at the exact shade of blue that I would want available.

(PRODUCT)RED is an effort that goes back decades. It's not just a colour. It's a fundraiser for AIDS.
I’m aware of this, but I suspect many who buy a red iPhone just want a red iPhone. I wouldn’t mind supporting a cause, but I’m not going to carry around an iPhone that I dislike the color. I’d rather donate to whatever organization and be helpful. Maybe this is reflected in the sales of red iPhones and other devices.

I'm no longer liking the new Apple. They used to stand out as the rebel child, but now it seems to be all about profits.
That’s because you opened your eyes to see it. It was never about being a rebel child. Do you really think the “think different” advertisements were more than just to get you to buy something? Even Steve Jobs was all about the money and that’s what businesses do. They provide your product that works in exchange for money. Even all of the charity and social causes corporations support are only to make themselves look good so people buy their products. If customers have to choose between buying the Google pixel and the Apple iPhone when Apple is supporting their favorite charity or cause what one will they buy?

Wanting a red band for my black Ultra 2 but haven’t seen anything I like yet.
Check out Nomad. They have different bands for Apple Watch and some are available in a nice red. For instance

They have others as well.

I have one of their orange bands and the quality is pretty high.

I want a buckle just like the ocean band. They do not make the red one that way.

Pity. Everything I have bought, if there was a product red offering, I’ve bought it.

I’m typing this from my red se3 with a red iPhone 6 smart battery pack, with a red watch 6 and band.

Does the product red cost more? Does a percentage go to the charity? What is the nature of the ‘partnership’?

I believe the product red costs the same as the other options. Yes, Apple donates a portion of of the sales to the Global Fund to help fight AIDS/HIV programs in Africa. Since 2006 they've raised over a quarter of a billion dollars to give millions of people access to testing and treatments.

You can read more about the partnership on the red.org site.

I hope this helps.

I wonder if its because it’s become less of an issue in recent years and they’ll pivot to something different?

Whilst of course aids hasn’t gone away or been cured, there are proven preventative medicines that are becoming increasingly available so we really are on the edge of wiping it out.
You make a good point as HIV has moved from deadly to treatable chronic disease. Right now it is in the sweet spot for pharmaceutical company profit as they have effective treatments that involve taking a daily pill so their interest in continuing to fund research is going to be minimal. I suspect the only way that it will move forward from treatable to a cure is with publicly funded research.

They could afford doing this with Product Red donating money when business is good. Nowadays every penny counts.

Somehow doubt that Cook would turn his back on a HIV charity. Maybe the red promotion just doesn't have the same impact it used to because we are all so used to it now, so there's not much motivation on either side to keep it going.

Apple is in a position where they’re the only company that’s ever raised much money with “product red”. Almost every other company stopped releasing products with it within the first few years. There’s been articles about how Apple contributes by far the most money, and has released the most branded products.

I'm with @Robert.Walter ! I bought most of Apple's (PRODUCT)RED offerings. I miss having this color available on their new products. Let's hope that Apple will consider re-integrating (PRODUCT)RED again.

i wonder if this is in part due to jony ive leaving apple. IIRC he led many of the product red projects; including the special one-offs for charity auction.

Maybe no one bothered (or wanted) to pick up his mantle. Or maybe he was the only one with enough clout to push tim into releasing the products.

It is usually the best colour when available, and raises money for a good cause. It is a pity it is disappearing.

I'd like to see some other bold colours raising money for charity. Considering Apple push environmental issues, I'd like to see emerald green products raising money for environmental projects.

It’s now all

The ultimate subscription product

Tim is probably considering an “Apple Pharma” product offering
