Apple Hates Vista?! I Don't Think So!

I came across this new option in my control panel in Windows Vista today, and boy! Was I surprised!

How in the world did that get there? I don't remember an update for that!:p

EDIT: Apple still makes fun of Vista, but they still add these "features" without me knowing it? :confused: First Safari, now this? Stop putting all this malware on my computer Apple! I didn't want Safari (Go Firefox 3! :)) nor do I want this extra link in my Control Panel.:(

Did Apple or anyone say that they [Apple] hated Vista? :confused:

Why would you think that? Apple supplies drivers so their computers can run Vista! Apple loves M$ (well maybe I shouldn't go that far)

MSIE and Mobile Me

ahh, my wife just got a new Sony Vaio. I logged on to her MSIE (Explorer) browser and Mobile Me. Logged in and received a message that Mobile Me isn't "fully" supported under MSIE. Not sure if that's MS or Apple. Message said to use Firefox. It's doable but yikes. I thought the idea here was to access your info on any computer if you're away from your Mac.

If Mobile Me doesn't work completely on Vista/MSIE, then it's either Apple or MS thwarting the union. I'm sure one will point at the other.

Not very stably, therefore 'enhancing' Apple user's impressions that Vista is not that great.

They sneaked this in via iTunes. The same as Safari. If any other manufacturer did it, people would freak - but the Apple-addled blogoidiotsphere is not making a huge deal of it.

this has been discussed before, the installation of piece of app w/o asking for permission of the users who own the computer, is malware behavior.

If you read the documentation that came up during installation, you would see what's included. MobileMe and Safari are not hidden installations.

good point, I change my statement to "taking advantage of the reality that many people don't bother to read the documentations during the installation".

PS. can you show me a screenshot of this "documentation" on windows? Would be good to see how exactly it works..

Safari is not installed on your computer as part of the installation. It is recommended (same as FireFox). You can use IE7 but they are saying that not all features are supported with IE7. Now I think this is a bad idea on Apples part but this is not new. Don't you remember all of the "Best View with IE" (still have that on my company web site).

As far a MobileMe Preferences. That is just part of iTunes 7.7. Why would that be a problem. Now maybe it should not be in the Control Panel. I think it could of been placed in the Start Menu with the other iTunes stuff and an optional short-cut on the desktop. Is that your complaint?

Very very differnet then when Apple pushed Safari on people. Many applications add a control panel (which is not a application) for preferences. Sync services are part of iTunes(and have always been there but just didn't support MM), so that's why the control panel is packaged with it. They could have called it something else but that would only make it harder for those who want to use MM. They also could have skipped the CP altogether and put it in iTunes prefs, but that wouldn't make sense either. IMO they did it the best way.

exactly how were iPT or iPhone or iPod synced? when there was no MM?

Its unnecessary for people who don't use MM, and has every obvious intention of trying to push a product.

Making every excuse as many apple defender might do, it just doesn't hold water, and it will be judged badly in public eyes.

What's so bad about Apple trying to push a product on you when they give you iTunes for free? Many other apps are advertisement powered, why can't iTunes be?

Please grow up, Clevin. Apple is just another company trying to get your dollar.

LOl, what kind of grow-up logic is that? I got free firefox, thunderbird, abiword, openoffice, linux, amarok, winamp, foolbar, 7zip, gimp, skype, pidgin, adium, virtualdesktop, avidemux, ffmpegx, transmission, utorrent, limewire, google earth, dvdshrink, miro, vlc, opera, quicksilver, realplayer, from no-one would I, or should I, or have I even expect an ads or extra app come with them.

You know who bundles and push out "extra" stuff? AOL does, and everybody knows what type of reputation it has. Frankly, apple is quite close to AOL already.

Sometime I feel Im the one that care more about the reputation of apple than many so-called fanboys. how strange is that?:rolleyes:

90% of what you just said is either open source, or is ad supported. Google earth, real player, skype, opera, etc. are all pushing other services on you you may just be too oblivious to realize that you are being advertised to.

As for Apple being close to AOL. Yeah, they do have a similar game plan. What's your point? Are you going to stop using iTunes and other apple products?

My point is that game plan shared by apple and aol sucks big time and earned horrible reputations.

For me personally, no worries, I have no apple products on my EEE-XP.

That is the idea - the problem from a web developers point of view is that MSIE is an awful browser that does not support standards that have been long established (hello PNG support - did not get support until 7)... even my die hard MS friends hate using IE for anything these days. Its better than it once was however its still a sub-par browser IMO.

BTW: How's your Vaio? Everyone I know that has one has had absolutely no problems with 'em.... :eek:

My Vaio is amazing, I got it about 15 months ago and Sony is still selling my model (the FZ series) so it makes me feel good that the computer I bought is still selling well:)

The Control Panel is not the best place for the MM app in Windows - it should have been included or linked off iTunes.
