I don't want to be raped :(
Anyone else notice that Apple has been adverstising less and less in movies?

I mean if you pick up a movie during the iBook/Powerbook erra, you are bound to see one, which me and my friends tend to scream during a movie >_<

Anyways I haven't seen a movie recently (mind you i don't go see every movie, just ones that appeal to me, an 18 year old boy) that had an Apple in it. Mainly i have been seeing dells :(. Either Dell is paying more, or Apple is feeling they should fall out of Movie, and just advertise more on TV..

Meh, not the way I would go, Apple has the "we-are-too-good-for-TV" appeal, I'd rather them not go the way of ****** commercials that make no sense (like dell and hp) and just stay with the barely noticeable "the super scientist in this movie uses mac"..

I don't think Apple really paid for many of their cameos in movies in the past. As I have understood it, most of the Macs in movies were used because they either looked better than most of their PC counterparts, or the Director/Production team where Mac fanbois like you and I, and the Hollywood bigwigs love their Apples.

I would say that any product you see on the screen nowadays is bought and paid for, and Dell and HP et.all are paying the big money for their product to be shown. 10 years ago it wasn't nearly as bad as it is today, nearly every action movie I have seen in past couple of years have just been a barrage of product placement. I swear that Casino Royal was just a two hour commercial for Sony and Ford.

It didn't take me long to notice that in the Movie "Accepted" staring Justin Long "Hello, I'm a Mac" every computer seen in that movie is clearly an Apple. (I'm guessing that was intentional, but by whom I don't know. )

But in many cases I can tell an Apple is being used in a movie, but they'll cover up the Apple or the name on the back.

In "Home Improvement" I frequently see a PowerBook G3 black with the Apple logo covered with a bright red strawberry sticker. It's so funny!

I actually see Macs frequently in commericals, tv shows, and movies. A few months back when I watched TV, I saw a newer commerical with an iBook G4 dead spot on the screen. I walked into a Walmart today and saw some movie playing on a tv. It showed some gothic-like girl on a white iMac (newer gens; could see it from all views, angles, and the apple on the front). I don't think Apple is cutting back on advertisment, its just not in the places it was before.

Hmmm...I can't think of a movie I've seen in the last two years that DIDN'T have a Mac in it. OP, which movies have you seen that didn't have a Mac in them?

Hollywood uses Macs as a visual re-enforcement of the users goodness. Volvo (Breaks/Estates/Station Wagons? Whatever you call them where you live!) are used in the same way. You know if some middle class guy drives back to a nice house in a Volvo (Maybe a SAAB) and has a Mac on his desk he's a good guy. They use Irishness in the same way too but that's more for your average guy capable of extraordinary things type and so technology doesn't come into it. (Unless it's deactivating an atomic bomb!) As for we French and English, we are definitely evil PC types with our terrible arrogance and viruses!

Apple In Movies

They're not as blatant as they used to be, but they are still in a few movies. Ones I can immediately think of are 'The Devil Wears Prada', 'Knocked Up' and 'Transformers'

Iv eseen them all over. If anything, theyve increased!

oh and btw, in commercials and other small simplet hings on tv, is cheaper to get the copyright to show the mac in the commercial than it would to get a pc copyright.

Could you provide a source for this? It would be an interesting read. Thanks:)

I haven't seen the other two, but I completely forgot about "Knocked Up!" There was a nice mac in there :)

All I am saying is the more recent movies, again remember I am an 18yr old male so I mean I usually go for zombie movies, anything like Ocean's 11 so on.. I have been seeing Dell more and more.

BTW, even with apple's logo covered they are easy to tell apart

You know why they use Macs instead of PCs?

Because they look pretty.

Seriously. In a movie, nobody wants to see some ugly ass black/beige pc with a huge ass tower and wires everywhere. They want to see the nice simple iMac.

Not in a movie, but I just saw a commerical for the 2008 Acura TL. It didn't have a Mac, but show'd a guy using a wireless Mightymouse and dragging an iPod and some speakers, like icons, into a "folder" of his car. It even made the 'Bwannh' sound it makes when you drag something into a folder!

My son watches a show called iCarly where they have an obvious MBP but the Apple logo is covered up with a pear! And the name of the show is very Apple like-iCarly!

I've seen that commercial, and it's quite clearly an iMac.

Okay good! Looks like I don't watch enough TV/Movies!

I am just glad to heard that Apple is not pulling themselves out of the "sub-conscience" advertising market. I have only been seeing the new iMac, and iPod nano commercials and it worried me that Apple might be going the way of Dell, and HP.. I am happy that is not that case.

there isn't no Mac in Resident Evil Extinction.
there's only Sony (VAIO) and BMW

in 24, they use both Macs and PCs (Dell) at CTU

in Firewall, they use PC

in Smallville, Lex Luthor uses a Dell and a VAIO. i haven't seen a Mac in this series either.

in Transformers, they use Mac systems at the department of defense, but PC on the Air Force One. the laptop that the alien robot uses in the alien police car was definitely not a Mac.

in 1408, both Mr. Michael Enslin and the Dolphin hotel receptions use PCs

in Knocked Up, Debbie uses an iMac and Jason uses a MBP

in The Condemned, the system they use to broadcast the show all over the world was PC not Mac

The tracking system's client computer used in The Hills Have Eyes 2 was a MBP

in Prison Break, Michael Scholfield's computer was a PC

i could go on and on. but this already shows that PCs and Macs are used equally in movies.

Someone mentioned Casino Royale earlier in the thread... Sony is the studio that produced the film (or distributed it) so obviously the product placement didn't cost them anything. The British show MI:5 (aka Spooks) features lots of Mac usage from Imacs to MBPs etc.
