Apple Invites App Updated With Two New Features

Apple Invites was updated today with two minor features related to RSVPing to an invite: hosts and guests can now react with emoji when someone replies to an event, and a confetti animation now appears when guests reply.

Version 1.10 of the app also contains bug fixes and performance improvements, according to Apple. The update is available now in the App Store.

Released for the iPhone in February 2025, the Apple Invites app makes it easy to invite people to events, such as birthday parties and baby showers. The ability to create an event in the app requires subscribing to an iCloud+ plan with at least 50GB of storage, but anyone who receives an event link can RSVP for free on any device.

Look, I get why people think this is a weird place to spend resources but look ahead. Almost all of Apple's Apple Intelligence scenarios end in some sort of an event or gathering. This app is being developed to become an agentic application.

Apple has long been positioning itself as the company that fosters real world interactions, the antidote to the brain rot social media tech giants that want you buried in your phone scrolling. Modern Apple's DNA wants you spending time with people, taking photos (iPhone), participating in outdoor activities (Watch), etc. The Invite app is a means to that end.

What are invites usually sent in? Cards. This app will go the way of the Apple Cards app.

And it needs to not require an account for RSVP'ing guests. If I invite someone to an event and in order to reply they need to create an account and or hand over their info that's just rude.

It doesn’t require an Apple account for RSVPing guests. They can just use an email address. If the email is associated with an existing Apple account it’ll ask them to log in with that but it does not require them to have an Apple account.

Yeah... but wasn't this horse already dead before even born? The idea of the app is good, but some people at Apple made the stupid mistake by making an iCloud+ subscription mandatory. And for the ones receiving the invite also need an iCloud account to interact. The party playlist requires the Apple Music subscription. And that's not all... the app is slated that it runs on any iPhone... but Image Playground only works on recent iPhones. All the essence is gone.

All this basically makes this app unattractive from the start. It's easier to just use Pages and Mail for free.
I know that Apple nowadays makes money with paid digital services, but it's looking more and more like Microsoft and their lock-in Office licences. It wouldn't even surprise me when one day Apple scraps the local TimeMachine backup option in macOS and moves to an exclusive paid TimeMachine service in a more expensive iCloud Ultra subscription.

The amount of work invested in this app is inversely proportional to the number of people who use it. Even in the Apple TV series Widow’s Bay Patricia uses Evite.
