You mean the piece that holds the cover to the mini? It's fairly strong. It held up my ipad when I attached it to my fridge haha

You don't think the piece connecting the two will fall apart/go to hell after some use?

And do magnets lose their strength over time? I mean...it doesn't matter how many times I take the magnet on/off it won't lose it's strength, will it?

based on the folds of my 18 month old large smartcover, I'd guess your concerns are a non issue....

The Mini covers aren't of the same quality as the originals and thats a shame. It detaches way too easily, isnt as sturdy as a stand and even though I like the less-scratchy non-leather hinge then it doesn't feel right. Overall it just doesnt feel like a quality product.

Im keeping it though just because I like Smart Covers, but I am exchanging light gray for dark gray because light gray doesnt look as good in person. Its a shame that Apple is charging so much for something that falls below their own standards.

Honestly I disagree...I have looked closely and the folds are the same, it stands the same and the hinge will last the same. In fact, the mini is better as it won't scratch like the bigger covers with metal hinges. There is more play in the hinge, but I don't see that as cheap. But to each his own, I plan to CF mine with CF strips from icarbon and a hard shell back. It'll work fine...FOR ME. But this is why Apple has a great return policy. I felt the same about the smartcase and returned both of mine because I thought it was junk. I agree it should be $29, though.

It's not a question of matching up... when tilted upside down they sag. Several others have reported the same on here, and the Apple store said they've been getting reports all day, and it's a known issue. You know you don't have to be so defensive just because you bought the product, jeez.

On my full-sized iPad, turning it upside down (screen down to gravity) will also cause the Smart Cover to sag a bit.

I feel like you have to break it in, mine is perfect now, but I was actually the first person to post a thread of the issue of it not laying flat.

What happens when you turn it upside down? Does it sag or come right off?

I tried to "break mine in" ... the issue is the magnets aren't strong enough to hold it down. I didn't have an issue with it flapping open, I just had the sagging issue, and that's something no "break in period" could resolve, it's just an is what it is kinda thing unfortunately. If the smart cover was $10-20 I'd just live with it, but for $40 I can't look past the flaw with other good cases in the same price range.

Same here. I'm returning mine tomorrow or maybe I will ask an employee to try another out first.

When I returned mine I asked to try another, and they showed me a couple. They said it's kinda pointless to bother though, as they've been getting a lot of complaints and returns because of it.

To each his own - this is more than flat enuf for me....and exactly how my 18 month old ipad3 cover looks too

The mini Smart Covers are weaker in structural strength for obvious reasons. But they still work perfectly fine and lat flat as they are supposed to. At least in my case. Even the magnets hold the cover when its flipped back, unlike the larger version. Again, because we're dealing with a much smaller cover.

Ditto. Not quite the same as the full sized iPad Smart Cover but I see nothing to be upset about. Mine has yet to fall off during use. Does it tilt a bit when folded onto the back, yea. Does it devalue the product, no. Still an excellent way to protect the screen and act as a protection when setting it down.

Yeah, but yours sags for an entirely different reason, you have a TPU case that disrupts the even laying of the case against the facade.

the first thing I did with both my red and grey is set them in the sun flat for a few hours...(I'm in florida so we still have pretty good temp)..I'll bet you could get a better "flatness" with laying it on glass or counter and a hair dryer used on low....

the poly folds are strong so it lasts and eventually it flattens with use - here is a ipd3 cover that has been used for 18 months daily for travel and presentations - it's flat (on a incipio back)
