That's what Im hoping too.
Any idea if there's any hope for this?

Can I save a blob on my jailbroken iPad 3 and then later down the line, if I purchase an iPad 5 or iPad mini or whatever, would I be able to use that same iPad 3 blob on my new iPad in order to get it out of the latest iOS and down to a jailbreakable one?

I'm content sticking with the latest Jailbreakable version until iOS 7 comes out. However, it's too bad that we couldn't get the passcode bug fixed first. Is there any way the passcode bug can be patched through Cydia without upgrading to Apple's latest version of iOS?
The jailbreak is the fix not this crap.
If apple would let you do what you want with your own phone there wouldn't be a need for jailbreak.
There's no good reason to not let people customize their phones.
I got the impression that the blobs created via the OTA method differed. So simply in this case, if you were ever to try to restore to a firmware,I think they got something up their sleeves since they were telling everyone to grab their blobs and not update using the OTA method.
Just by using itunes instead so I think we will see something down the road.
It the simple fact that everything that lets a jailbreak work is a security flaw - something that someone being malicious could potentially use to hack your phone.I wonder what causes them to have such a bug up there butt over this. It truly Is beyond my scope of understanding. I wonder if the new CEO sits and worries or if it is only the lawyers?
I am sorry to them, and I love them still.
well that blows. So basically I'm stuck with the device I have now.
Thanks Apple.
Jerks.

Close.
Its not the blob created that is different.
Is the firmware image on the device that is different when created with an OTA update. That's why you cant rerestore using your blobs if you got to your current firmware using an OTA update.
Redsnow will give you an OTA/restore APticket mismatch error and even though you have your blobs available you cannot use them.
Then you're stuck with only options to either staying where you are or updating to the latest firmware version.

Sounds like what I was meaning to say.
The image the OTA updates creates is different, so therefore the blobs keyed to it would be different, than the downloaded/full install image you use to restore when restoring to a no longer signed version of iOS
