Not bothering with the video. I make my own choices and do not let others advise me on how to spend my money.
Videos like that are designed to make people feel better about the decisions they’ve already made. There are valid reasons both to buy and not to buy any luxury item, but what it boils down to is do you want it and can you afford it? If you’re willing to drop the cash, then get it and stop worrying about what others think (not you, but in general).

Regardless of whether I agree with the prices or not they are what they are. The only thing that’s important is am I willing to pay for the phone?

Actually illegal in 35 states. Those complaining can check the definition in your state and sue if you think you've been violated.

OP you need to look up the definition of price gouging because this isn’t it.

I’m precisely aware of what price gouging is.

If you had actually watched the (rather) informative video, you’d find that the title of this thread was deliberately chosen to make a mockery of other threads with equally outrageous presumptions, ie, “iPhone not sold out within 30 minutes of open of preorder? It’s OFFICIAL it’s a flop” type threads.

More like the people with no $$ worries!!!

I on the other hand will not just hand over my "hard earned" $$$ to Apple for a half ass presentation and same ole phone. It's only a bigger screen with the Max.

If you want the latest of the latest when it comes to iPhones in let' say 2021 or 2022, I bet you are looking at prices of at least $1250/€1400 (base model: 128Gb storage wow ).

Why? Simply cause the very loyal Apple fan will buy that

Market research.

They show people prices for items and watch reactions. Frowns will signify prices too high. They then increase the price until the people start cursing and giving the finger. This sets the price.

You know how I know you didn’t watch this video?
I watched it, it’s like CNN came up with the title as it’s very misleading compared to the video that breaks down why the phones cost what they do.
Many will hate Apple because they are successful but still buy the product because it works.

They get free breath mints. Btw super analyst Kuo in an article from this site:

'Kuo says iPhone XS Max pre-orders have been in line with expectations, signifying the success of Apple's high-pricing strategy:

There is strong Chinese demand thanks to the gold casing, dual-SIM, and large display. The XS Max average shipping time is shorter than the 2H17 iPhone X (1–2 weeks vs. 2–3 weeks), which we think is due to supply improvements. We maintain our forecasts that the XS Max will account for 25–30% of 2H18 new iPhone model shipments."

Greed is good! ???

People have always been willing to pay this much or more for a phone. The 1994 Motorola StarTAC was introduced at $1,000 and sold well (I had one). That’s a tad over $1,700 in today’s dollars. $1,000 for a 1994 StarTAC or a current top end iPhone... the iPhone Xs/Xs Max sound more like the deals of the century rather than gouging.

Cheers, Azy
