Lets be honest every chip manufacturer is going to present its test data in the best possible light.
Of course their benchmarks are going to be done in ideal conditions in a lab context.
I am sure Apple is no worse than Intel or others.🤷‍♂️

It is not a scam, just business.

Yeah even if they didn't add the fine print, it isn't really a scam unless its 100% the same product to the M1, which it isn't!

When did you decide Apple was scamming us? (You specifically.) You've made the choice to purchase Apple products. As technology gets better and more advanced, of course prices will rise. Assuming you drive, do you have the same idiotic theory about cars? I dare you to contact Apple with this "complaint". I would love to hear their response.

When apple compares the M4 mba and the M1 mba… they say the M4 is 2x faster but they are using the M4 with 32GB of ram (which includes 10 cores GPU too) against MacBook Air M1 with 16gb of ram and has a 8 cores GPU. Then they say the M4 is 2x faster…

But what if we compare the M1 with 16gb of ram and 8 cores GPU against a M4 MacBook Air with 16gb of ram and 8 cores of GPU… I think it might not be 2x faster…

Ok M1 didn’t includes 16gb of ram and 8 cores GPU… but the M1 was sold by apple cheaper than the M4 in some countries… example in Canada it was sold at 1299$ CAD and the M4 is now 1399$ CAD + we could find very good deals for the M1… so for around 999$ I am pretty sure some people might have found the M1 with theses specs (dude it was sold at Walmart for 699$ I think)

So is apple giving us better numbers than in reality? What do you think.
In Canada specifically, the dollar is much weaker against the US dollar when the M4 came vs when the M1 did. You’re leaving out a lot of important details in your thought process.

Ok but not also Canada but prices got more expensive in Europe if I am right.

The scam is someone saying "why didn't they compare it to this device" and then saying "ok they didn't have those specs for that device but..."

This year's car is faster than last year's car because the engine has a larger displacement that yields more horsepower! It's a scam I tell you!
while
This year's horse is faster than last year's horse
because a old horse is not a fast as a new horse ofcouse
And this one'll soar 'til his chip is hoarse
You’ll never hear of a slower horse?
Go right to the source and ask the horse
He'll give you the answer that ’ll will only endorse
“Mchips are always on a steady course!”
Says Mr. Tims!

I had to: "A horse is a horse, of course, of course, and no one can talk to a horse, of course." That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mister Ed.

I doubt that most people need a computer that is faster than an M1
I think that's true!

Just for kicks: Apple sold (according to IDG) 22,000,000 Macs last year. Let's say 1/2 the worldwide developer population (28M) is MacOS (/2 = 14M) and 1/3 of those bought a new computer (/3 = 4.6M). Now let's assume a full 1/2 of those (/2 = 2.3M) would notice a difference day to day (I think this is high). Let's double that to account for the miscellaneous others (media creators, researchers, and the like) who might also notice. Rounding up to be generous that's 5M of the 22M sold or 23%. That's certainly not "most" and I think I'm being very generous with the numbers.

Though I only put 8 GB in mine, so what do I know? (Except that I've lopped that memory in half for containers, regularly drive the memory pressure into the red, and still biggish compilations take less than the amount of time it takes to refill my coffee. Long gone are the days I could make a fresh pot before the compilation finishes...)

But this is just back of the envelope assumptions (except for the starting numbers). As ChrisA suggested, it's the wetware that's slow, modulo some small percentage of use cases.

Is Apple scamming you? No, not at all

Is Apple taking money from you? Of course and their marketing will do all it can to make you want the latest and greatest, even if you don’t really need it.

When there are all kinds of asterisks, footnotes, and other qualifiers to a statement, yeah, it's a scam.

Don't forget, this is the same company that said--with a straight face--that FineWoven is a durable microtwill that had undergone thousands of hours of testing.🤣

Some people also wanted nano texture option but ok if it’s not the screen it can something else like ports or battery improvements
What ports do you want to see? The Air has two Thunderbolt 4 ports, 3.5mm out, and MagSafe 3. For a thin and light I think that is just fine.

Battery life, according to Apple, is the same as the M3 Air which is the same as the M2 Air which is the same as the M1 Air. 18 hours. Battery life is also going to depend on physical space plus hardware efficiency. My 2020 M1 MacBook Pro on paper has better battery life than the M4 Air, 20 hours versus 18. The M1 MBP is also thicker leaving room for a larger battery.

It sounds like you are expecting a redesign of the MacBook Air. The thing is though that the product already had a redesign with the M2. We're probably going to have this design for another couple of years.

I wanted another thunderbolt port... it can help if I want to charge it from the left in some places... + I had the m1 MacBook Air and 18h of battery is never 18... If I do some Xcode projects it will last some hours... not the full day.

Ps : some friends are using MacBook Air and Xcode... so better battery would be great since they might not be able to get the pro

Talking about scams, let’s see if they once again cripple the ssd like they did on the m2 mba.

Apple compared a higher tier M4Air against a higher tier M1Air both in a similar price bracket when factoring in inflation and exchange rates, yeah that is a "scam" for those people pandering either buying an M4 now or traveling back in time to buy an M1 in 2020!!

Reality is that these comparisons are targeted at people who have an older device (like the M1) and arr considering an upgrade.
Yes they will have to find out what that new config cost and yes the used value of that old device will only be a fraction of that.
