They aren't hiding it in store. I was buying an Apple Pencil this weekend, I saw people buying the iPad Air 2 and the big iPad Pro - less interest in the 9.7" from what I saw. The rose gold is beautiful, though, my next phones, iPads and Macbooks will be that color.
I was in the Apple Store on Sunday, and there were LOTS of people looking at BOTH Pro models. Place was an absolute zoo. I reallly think with the introduction of the 9.7" Pro and the momentum the 12.9" already has, we're going to see some renewed iPad interest.

My fear is that anyone who has given confidence to the Pro12.9, will find themselves with a device prematurely discontinued.

Everyone including myself with a 12.9 inch iPad Pro will always get the latest iOS updates for at least the next 3 years and we have 4 GB of ram to ensure that. Even its ever prematurely discontinued, the support will be there so this was a blatantly ignorant statement; the newest products will always be on the front of the page.

If Apple does get sloppy with code or purposefully nerfs performance on the 12.9, I'll happily stay on whatever the last JB'able iOS version is that does have good performance, doing away with that pesky sw update reminder every day,

4GB is so sweet (imo)

I think 12.9 is going to be like the plus iPhone, a sleeper hit.

Price needs to come down from the orbit though, even if not officially, in resell. and refurb when gen 2 drops,

with SKB, Pencil, 29w charger+USBC to USBA, and base 32 wifi, looking at at least $1160 by my rough calculations

That's a tough financial pill to swallow

I align with this frame of mind although I did go out and buy full retail from Apple minus the deathly sick education discount of $20!

Has anyone noticed that in the Apple website, in the page for iPad Pro, any references and images is to the 9.7" model? Have you noticed also to the fact that it seems that the company is hiding silently the largest model? Almost as to indicate a future elimination from the market.
I know they are just speculations, but according to you do you think that Apple's marketing policy is oriented all at the expense of the 12.9?

Not everything is a conspiracy theory. Relax. The 12.9" model is still extremely easy to find on the website. Went to apple.com just now and both models are shown front and center on the front page. Go to the ipad page, same deal. Click Buy, and both are right there to select.

It's not so bad if, as in my case, it saved me from buying another MacBook. My MacBook Air has been unusably slow ever since I upgraded it to Yosemite, so I was thinking of buying a more recent model. 12.9 iPad Pro made that unnecessary, so it saved me money.

Yeah, I'm seriously thinking about ditching my 2011 MacBook Air. It's a nice computer but it's slow, the battery life is terrible, and the non-Retina is sub-par compared to the iOS devices. TBH, I have not fired it up since Christmas (what does THAT tell you??). With my new 9.7 IPP and the right apps, I can conceivably do everything I needed the MBA for. And, care and feeding of 3 devices instead of 4 would be nice.

I love my iPP 12.9 that I got on launch day... But as I've said before, how many new or different color front and back covers have Apple released for the 12.9 model? All those new cover colors available for the 9.7 proves what size they expect to sell more.

Maybe, but who cares? The original Pro is really more for pros, which are not interested in different cover colors.....

See it wasn't enough for you to make the unnecessary thread...you got a common sense response in the very first post, and then you come back again with 'bla bla bla logic, i still think its being discontinued.'

I'm convinced Macrumors is for boredom posts only.

Well I figure after several degrees and 21 years building a business I could be considered a "pro" user that would like more options for pro cases.. Like leather. Black/brown are classic "pro" business colors. Not white or primer Gray. If there were more demand there would be more pro options. Apple wouldn't miss a chance to make a sell. But I'm sure your probably correct in your assessment.

By your post you must think that Apple doesn't really consider the 9.7 to be for pro users since they released multiple cover color options..

Lack of color choices doesn't necessarily "prove" which size they expect to sell more of. It might have something to do with the wide variety of users who would buy the 9.7 model vs. 12.9.

A wider variation of users is not the same as a larger quantity of customers.

I don't think that any substantive conclusions can be drawn until/unless Apple releases sales figures for each model.

This was my experience yesterday when I went into the 5th Avenue store. Both iPPs were clearly visible on the tables. And people were eager to use the pencil and both sizes of iPads.

They're two products that are called the same thing, naturally they'll push the newer one. Apple wouldn't hide an expensive product like that. MacBook Air however.. That one should be hidden.
