Do you have an SSD installed? If so, i'm sure its fine. But without an ssd ANY mac on the market today would be brutal IMO.
If you claim otherwise, you havent used a mac with an ssd, because once you get used to it, the lags caused by a spinning drive are absolutely unbearable

It really does depend upon what using the Mac for.

My mini does have an SSD, a 60Gb Corsair that was going spare. The SSD improves boot up and Application opening times.

However my mini is on 24/7 and sits there with the EyeTV and iTunes open anyway.

All the recording/playback is done on the Drobo Pro attached. WD RE4 500Gb Disks x 8. FW800 Connection hardly the speediest either.

However putting the SSD didn't make it any quicker at what it is being used for. Machine is already up and the Apps already open.

If was opening and closing apps all the time then yes would make difference however for normal day to day operation then doesn't feel any quicker then when was the HDD. Probably if measured then would see some difference in the measured results.

If my 2009 broke then would likely but the base 1.4GHz ( My Mac Pro does the real work ) and just upgrade to 8Gb of RAM and even keep the HDD.

My use means that once booted up and running then the SSD really wouldn't make much difference.

My only gripe is that the default is still a slow spinning hard drive.
I am thinking of buying a current 21.5" with an SSD and 16gb. It doesn't bother me that it's Broadwell since Skylake is not that big of a jump. I think a current iMac in the right configuration will last a long time.
I more concerned that the next iMac will be considerably more expensive as what occurred with the MBP's. FWIW, I think the new MBP is a great piece of gear. Excellent design and plenty of performance for most users. I just think they are overpriced. If I need portability I would buy one. I was comparing them to the Surface at Best Buy yesterday and it's no contest for me. (Then again, I'd rather have a root canal than use Windows.)

I just can't believe anyone buying old Macs at the same price as they were released 1-3 years ago. Apple is mostly focused on iOS. Especially with the holiday season right now, Mac sales will disappoint. I am not buying an overpriced Macbook Pro with Magical Touchbar. iMac, Mac Mini, Mac Pro, Macbook/Air all need updates.

I guess I'm still getting used to being disappointed by Tim Cook.
I'm fairly sure their pricing has been like this for probably longer than you've been alive.
This really should not be anything to be surprised about at all.

Very true.
The first Mac I put an SSD in was my late 2009 27", it was an Intel X25M 80GB, put it in in 2009 and was the best upgrade ever. That machine is actually still being used today in one of my office. It stays on 24/7 and used 12hrs a day 4 days/week.

I later put a Samsung 830 128GB drive in my 2007 iMac. Made a world of difference in that one too.

They should just change the buyer's guide to say never buy a Mac.

No one is forcing you to buy a Mac, if you don't like them any more, then move on. There's plenty of other computer makers out there. I personally, love my iMac and its a great machine I will continue to recommend it where it will meet the needs of the person asking.

Thanks but I am entitled to my opinion. I am criticizing Apple because I want them to be better and stop spending so much time on iPhones and more on Mac.

And no one else is allowed to share back their opinion unless they agree with you?

You are, but I'm pointing out that if you don't like what you see, then you have to vote with your wallet.

Also, since Apple makes a lot more money on iPhones, and the computer market in general is receding, its likely that Apple will continue to focus attention and resources on what is making them the most profit, i.e., the iPhones.

Yes I partly agree with you. iPhones make a lot more money, but Macs are still crucial to the Apple ecosystem. They can't just forget about them and expect people to keep buying them. People will start buying Windows machines and then say hey I don't really need an iPhone if I don't have a Mac.

People don't have to have an iPhone wether use a Mac as the computer or not.

There are people out there happily using iPhones and Windows PC's and Mac's with Android Phones.

I bought iPhone well before got a Mac, I stick with iPhones, currently on an SE because I find them easier to use, better updates provided for on iPhones then Android where appears to be buy it with the version it comes with as next year ( if that long ) a new phone is out with new Android but not going to get the new Android on your by now Old Android phone.

Over the next 12 months then evaluating wether to stick with Mac, or jump to Win10. Main thing for me will be finding a TV Recording Program/Guide Provider and then Video Editing.

My main needs are

DVR System - Currently Elgato
iTunes Server
Video Editing - Currently FCP X

Whether I stick with OS X or move Windows 10 then won't be changing off iPhones.

Saint Steve showed how you don't even need a PC/Mac for use with you iPhone, can do the Activation straight from Apple without connecting to an iTunes machine full stop.

For sure there are people that use both, but a lot of people are all aboard the Apple train or very anti-Apple that don't buy anything from them. Apple products sync well together and that's why some people are somewhat locked in. iMessage, Facetime, Notes, Safari, Photos, iTunes, etc. Windows seems to be a mess every other update, that's why a lot of people don't make the switch.
If Apple turns off Mac users they may also turn off iOS users.

As Apple is going downhill, I just sold iPad Pro a few months ago. Will continue to down vote Apple by "unloading" Macbook Air, Mac mini etc.

Sales would go up if they dropped the price. Particularly the Mac Pro (1086 days since updated) and Mac Mini (784 days). You wouldn't have disgruntled customers switching to PC. All they care about is the iPhone now.

The fact Apple is selling the Mac Pro and Mac mini at full original price so many years after they were released is obscene.
