Even if you purchase the stainless steel Apple Watch, you *don’t* have to activate the cellular. Its Optional.

But I’m paying for something I won’t use. Like heated car seats, I live in central Florida. My main rant is the price for something that has maybe a 4 year life span.

Why isn’t there a SS AW with just GPS like the aluminum?

Is anyone else in this boat?

Apple just priced themselves out of contention when it comes to buying both new products. The phone I'm interested in is the Max, but the cost is so prohibitive, I can't justify that AND the new Apple Watch.

Crazy days.
Same here, ill buy iphone XS 512Gb with airpods and on 5 months apple watch with all features.

I planned on jumping in with both feet to the Apple ecosystem this year. I've been on Android since 2010 and my Galaxy S6 is about to kick the bucket as is my wife's. I have been eyeing the Apple Watch over the last year and I could get by with the Series 2 or 3. I have a MBP that I really like and I was looking forward to the latest iPhone, but the pricing may keep us away. I can't afford 2 phones and a watch. I told my wife she could get an iPhone and I'll get something else, but she is unwilling to pay the price for the Xs.

We're hoping Black Friday will trigger some sales for the iPhone. If not we wil probably be staying with Android and get the S9 since Samsung's Black Friday sales are always pretty good.

Well, the AW has a seriously terrible resale value. My plan is to just wait a few months and get it cheaper on Swappa, most likely with some accessories and maybe a warranty. My AW series 2 will last me until then, I really only use it to work out because of the crappy battery life.

For what it’s worth, check with your health insurance or workplace. Sometimes they have an allowance and can cover some or all the cost of fitness-related equipment. Apple Watches are usually included.

The price of the Apple Watch certainly is a bit painful. For me, its less about choosing a phone or a watch since I'm happy with the my x

I planned on jumping in with both feet to the Apple ecosystem this year.

If you want the full ecosystem experience, there's nothing wrong with the older iPhones. I have no plans to move off of my iPhone 7 anytime soon. I might still be using an iPhone 5s had Verizon not offered up a $400 off deal to upgrade from the 5s to a 7.

Nothing wrong with the current and older Android phones either.

I'm switching to an iPhone this year, and I was hoping to also get a watch now that I will have a compatible phone, but with the prices of the Xr my budget for the watch has been compromised. I really want the ECG feature of the Series 4, so I won't get the Series 3 to save money. It's the 4 or no watch.

The ECG feature will only be available in the US initially though, and who knows how long the EU will take to approve it. Maybe it's going to take a year? Who knows.

Just curious, why do you “really want” the EKG feature?

What you are not considering here is that by the time the ECG feature is available to you, the series 5 could be almost here, or actually here. Thats why I am not chancing the series 4, well that and the price hike while I have an immaculate perfectly functioning series 2 on my arm.
If it's FDA-approved then it's almost ready to be rolled out (assuming Apple follows the standard regulatory compliance procedures for Market Authorization Approval (MAA) of medical devices, which I believe it does).
Regarding other countries, it will depend on how they handle MAA for medical devices - some countries will wait until the big fishes like FDA and EMEA (the European Agency, FDA's european counterpart) approve it, others will ask for all nitty-gritty details before giving their green light ;)

I have a barely one-year-old Series 3 and even though I've very much interested in the heart monitoring features including ECG I'll wait until this feature gets approved in my country, and this could take a while...

Same here. I am going to pass on the watch this year since I already have series 3. Or should I pass on the phone and get the watch? I’m going crazy right now!

unfortunately for us as consumers, Sales numbers didn't indicate to Apple an "overprice" sort of situation with the X last year so they said "hey, we can keep that the same and introduce a new larger phone for even more money".

For me it is not so much price. I'm finding it harder to justify a new phone with such a lackluster improvement from the X. But I will definitely be buying a Series 4 Apple Watch with the improvements and size jump. Anyone else leave that Keynote feeling the same way?

Same boat. Woke up this morning and the feeling is I'm more excited an will use the new features of the watch more than the phone.

I might save my funds for a new iPad when they announce that this year. Definitely something to also consider.

I was going to get both the new iPhone and the new watch. But I just looked at the price for the watch. $429 for gps only? Ouch. Pass. I don’t like the thing that much honestly, and I love my Apple Watch I was going to end up waiting for it because of the $1100 price tag for the max, but now I think I’m just going to pass. My series 2 does everything I need it to do.

I bought both the X and series 3 AW last year and ouch that was expensive! Not gonna do that this year. Seeing this is an "s" year for the iPhone I will keep my current X. I WILL get the new series 4 AW (I feel the next AW will be like an "s" update). With these prices I see myself alternating each year between iPhone and Apple Watch.

Over the last year I have found I use my iPad (LTE) and AW more and more than my phone. Kind of wish I could simply pair my watch with the iPad and cut out the middle man (iPhone)! Ha!

I was just talking to my wife about that same idea. I also see a market in making a stripped down Apple Watch catered for kids that can be synced to the app on an IPad!

I have had some interesting things going on with my heart that have not been present at the time when I have had ECG's taken at my physicians office. It's nothing dangerous or anything but I'm really curious about what's going on

Get the watch.that way you will have enough money left over when you finally cave in to buy the phone.

I was hesitant to get the new watch, but I think I will order both the Max phone and the 44mm watch tonight. I sold my old series 3 watch a while back. Still have the accessories for it. And when I saw videos on the size of the new watch in reviews. It convinced me to get both. With the idea that the 6.5 inch phone and bigger watch will last me several years or more. Without upgrading them.

This is the first time I’ve really wanted an Apple Watch. Those damn Apple presentations are good.
