Everybody commenting on the "Haters", welcome to clickbait world, population you.

Though let's be real, Apple still has a lot of homework to do for its native Maps app and the functionalities are more limited outside the US, too.
Criticizing is one thing. Deriding, dismissing, castigating, using profanity, cursing fans, makes one a hater.

With Google Maps you can save an EXACT POINT (lat, long) as a place. I like this if there is a side of a building I prefer to drive to (access to parking, specific entrance I'm trying to get to, etc.). Apple maps will always default the pin you place to the nearest ACTUAL address which changes where its trying to direct me often.

In Google Maps I have specific doors of my local hospital saved (North entrance, West entrance), Apple Maps changes all of those to the Primary address of the hospital, resulting in me not going to exactly where I wanted to go

Google FTW

For long road trips, I still prefer to use Waze/Google Maps. Though for around town trips, I don’t mind using Apple Maps. I think it’s just a force of habit from me using Google Maps/Waze for so long.

I’ve been using Apple maps since launch, while my boyfriend uses Google Maps. I find that Google Maps is on par with Apple Maps for most situations, with some situations Google Maps choosing some really strange routes and offering arguably a worse experience. Also, Siri’s voice is superior, so the turn by turn directions sound beautiful in Apple Maps.

Apple Maps is much more accurate for me here in California, stopped using google maps entirely, also use Waze fairly often.

No time for hate.

Apple Maps was bad when it first launched. No question. but, I currently exclusively use it now and it's been great. I still love Google Maps I've just been trying to use more default apps. I have not missed Google maps either. ;)

I don't hate Apple Maps, but here are two things I hate about Apple Maps: 1) If I'm driving 30 mph in a residential area during a route, it's ok that I can only view about 1 square block on the screen. However, when I'm driving 70 mph down the interstate....it would be nice if it zoomed out a little to show a bigger area. It would also be nice if it zoomed out as you approach an upcoming turn to give you some insight. Often I have a left/right turn followed by another turn and I can't see what side of the road that second turn is on, to know which lane to get into. 2) When I'm traveling from one city to another city (long distance) I choose my route at the beginning. I purposely avoid certain roads because I know there will be issues. However, during my travel Apple Maps will automatically re-route me...despite the fact that I did not select that route in the beginning. I have noticed when it pops up to ask and I have selected 'no'. But there have been times while driving when I didn't notice and missed the pop-up....and it rerouted me when I didn't select an option. Many times this has resulted in adding like 30+ minutes to my trip.

Been using Apple Maps for my primary navigation for at least 5 years, likely no more than 7. It's come a long way over that time but I still use Google Maps when it comes to desktop browsing and directions. I save POI's in lists so I can see what's around if I'm travelling somewhere new "Oh, I have 3 locations I want to check out along this secondary route."

I don't want to do everything on my phone or tablet. Once Apple releases Maps in the browser I'll likely transition away from Google Maps a bit more.

I've literally never once in 15+ years of owning a smartphone needed to use a downloaded map.

I spent two weeks in Maine in a section that has zero cell service, from any company. Did a four week road trip around the southwest and there is often highways that have zero cell service for a hundred miles. Quintana Roo has miles of roads with no service. Same with central northern Quebec.

Just personal experience.

I use apple maps only to known locations, home, work, costco, just because it's smoother than google maps on carplay. For new locations, I have to find it in google maps, because it won't show up in apple.

The interface could use some improvements too.

EDIT: Deleted my original comment because the MR censors apparently think it's OK to selectively edit others' comments and completely change their meaning.

Like iMsgs, Apple Maps only works well in US. I find it that I only use it there. I like the way that it uses traffic lights as points of reference. In my country, it never does it, it's inaccurate and Waze still wins hands down.

I can guarantee I've traveled far more extensively than you. But have never needed a map in a place without service. Guess I've just managed by interacting with other humans.

That just what I listed. I carry paper maps, and often travel in areas without people, very rural and wilderness areas. I don't always even carry my phone, especially on backpacking trips. I'm an extroverted and social guy and talking to people is fine, when they are around.

This isn't a pissing contest. Who cares who travels more?

I started using Apple Maps exclusively a couple of years ago after they started the rebuild, and haven't had to use Google Maps more than a couple of times to try to find some brand new housing developments. Opening Google Maps makes me cringe - the entire experience in Apple Maps is superior in every way.

Apple Maps has been better for years and it can be summed up real easily.

Apple Maps “Go through this light and turn right at the next light.”

Google Maps “Turn right in 800 feet.”

What?

It’s also better in cities where one way streets are prevalent. If your destination is on one, but near a corner, Google will dump you at the corner because it’s a shorter time. Apple will actually take you down the one way and stop you in front of it. Huge difference.

Now… if I could only get an option in the Tesla to select the mapping system instead of needing a phone mount.

They fired Scott Forstall in 2012 for not launching a decent Google Maps alternative. Then it took the company at least a further six years to get to rough parity with Google and only now -- 11 years later -- are the masses starting to notice. Forstall was a scapegoat. The real problem was that Apple didn't know how long this would take.

Once Forstall was gone Maps has continued to improve. Wish it would have done so faster but it did improve leaps and bounds over what it came out with.

They had more reasons that just maps; he was butting heads pretty hard with others in leadership before the maps debacle. Maps was the reason given, but they wanted him gone regardless.
