With the recent update to Apple maps, Ive found it incredibly useful. So much so that I've deleted google maps entirely.

The turn by turn directions, map layout, button location, and I love how it will tell me there's a traffic jam ahead and offer me options to route around it (and tell me how much time I'll save by doing so).

I understand opinions have been founded earlier, but if you haven't checked out the new version then give it a try with an open mind.
Unlike others, I wont bad mouth an option that I dont like. Instead I'll promote what I like, and reasons why.

Apple maps is useable now. It still takes me on the longest routes and is nowhere near as feature rich as google maps. The only reason I use it is b.c CarPlay does not allow 3rd party maps.....at least not currently.

CarPlay literally is the only reason I use Maps now as well. Google Maps is miles ahead in terms of features (Streetview anyone), POI information, relevant search results, etc. So incredibly far ahead it's got to be embarrassing for Apple.

I use neither.

I use MAPS.ME app for my Androids which are downloaded offline maps. Deleted Google Maps. Don't like when Google Services keeps turning on which creates wakelocks for my Android phones. Kills battery life when screen is off preventing it to go into a deep sleep.

Has apple closed the gap do you think in terms of being the app to use for your iphone? are people using apple maps more compared to google maps?

No!!!!

2. What makes you jump to conclusions and think they aren't talking about the current version of Apple maps?

I only use Apple Maps when I'm feeling really adventurous, for the other times I use Google maps.

Apple maps have greatly improved since it first came out. Maybe it had to do with getting their data from a real provider. Google Maps is good for city driving it sucks in country driving. Where if might get you within 5 miles from an addresss.

Oh, so that must mean it never happens to anybody else.
So if you have a problem and post it, it must be a problem for everyone else?

I use all three. I like maps.me because I can use it when out of cell range, in back country. With maps on the phone the GPS still works great and the iPhone truely becomes a GPS unit free of cellular service. And unlike downloading maps from google maps.me maps don't have time limit and disappear.

Actually it doesn't. The burden lies on the person who says they have a problem, not that they don't.

Apple maps has proven to be as good as and more times then not better than google maps. For that reason I use it most of the time. Next would be my GPS navigation (UConnect) in my truck. After that Waze then Google

Well my experience google maps is still way superior. I do a lot of traveling

Works great for me and I live in the countryside.

How about the Verizon Navigator?? That's my go to navigation app. Yes, it does cost $5 bucks a month, but I have been using that app since day 1 (about 8-9 years now) and it works flawlessly. I've barely used Apple Maps and I've never used Google Maps. Maybe I'm just lame but that's the app that I'm sticking with.

Lol. Whew

Your sample size isn't large enough to say that it isn't a problem.

You are guilty of the same thing. You said above "because the poi data is inaccurate." How's that for a vague, non-descriptive, generalization that provides no examples, and suggests all of their data is inaccurate.
In fact, if you flatly say that "the poi data is inaccurate," then ONE example from one person proves you wrong.

I had been using google maps and waze for a while but switched to Apple maps has a few months ago when I had an incident where it was the only one that would get me to where I needed to go. One day I was driving on Route 17 in Paramus, NJ, a major road with 3 lanes in each direction, a concrete divider between, and businesses on either side. The place I needed to go was on the other side of the road so the directions should have brought me past the business I needed then to a u-turn ramp and back down, but google maps and waze both told me to take a left turn through the concrete divider.

Any of these map apps are only as good as the data they are supplied. Some counties and townships don't update road changes. Some roads may be listed incorrectly, divided, not divided etc. I need good information as my work depends on it. So I use them all. Mostly they agree, but not always. Sometimes an address will show in one but not other. This includes my stand alone Garmin GPS. They all work well now, but sometimes one will have more accurate data for a particular destination.

Apple Maps, mainly for the Apple Watch support (I love getting taps, a blinker sound, and a turn arrow on my watch when there is an upcoming turn) and the ability of Apple Maps to automatically turn off your screen when on the lock screen and you won't be turning for a while and then automatically wake the screen back up when you're getting close to your turn. And if the screen on my phone is off and I want to know how much longer until my next turn, I can just look at my watch.

These two features together mean I don't even have to plug my phone in when navigating all around. If I used Google Maps, I would just have to keep the screen on my phone on the whole time and it would drain the battery much quicker, meaning I need to plug it in.

The one thing I do miss from Google Maps is lane assistance. Love that it will show you and tell you which lane you need to be in.

For middle of nowhere, no service navigation, I use Nokia HERE WeGo. It lets you download entires states (or countries) and is free.

Anything from google is a no go! unless you don't mind they tracking and collecting data on every step you doing.

Between my stand alone GPS, Waze, and Here WeGo (for offline maps) im covered for navigation. Apple Maps is more for general usage.

isn't Waze Google?

Because the POI data is inaccurate. A map app isn't very helpful if it routes you to a location that isn't what you searched for.

Agreed...also Apple maps is VERY slow in its turn by turn directions...meaning it tells you to turn when you are almost right where you need to turn giving you little to no time to slow down. I now refuse to use Apple maps.
