Nothing will ever change for any large companies unless people start voting with their wallets. That doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon. The US is centered around consumerism.

Of course.
Tim Cook Gay and supports Trump.png

This is one of those situations where there was a lot of barking about X but there wasn't actually any biting. X is fine. Or it became fine when Meta also gave up the ghost when it came to fact checking.

Right. Like when META made people follow Trump, the VP and his wife on Instagram without following them last week or when #democats was blocked while #republicans worked fine or when mentioning Gaza caused you to be shadow banned. Free speech my ass

This is so dispiriting. I understand though. The advertising sums involved are a pittance to Apple, and will help avoid the ketamine-addicted wrath of the “first buddy.” If the other oligarchs had some testicles, we’d be having a different conversation, but Amazon, Meta and Alphabet have been kissing the ring nonstop. As long as half the country keeps voting for a mentally-ill revenge clown, this is our economic reality.

"Given that Musk just recently made a hand gesture that was widely interpreted as a Nazi salute at Donald Trump's inauguration...."

The sensationalism continues. That wasn't a Nazi salute and has been WIDELY debunked ever since it happened.
Nobody here appreciates you trying to normalize a nazi. It's not like you're on his payroll getting paid to clean up the mess he made. Just stop.

Hardly surprised. Steve Jobs’ Apple has been dead since 2011. Vision doesn’t drive Apple, profit does. Tim Cook is that guy so it makes sense that he aligns where the money is.

I used to buy and follow Apple with joy but for the last several years I stopped watching the keynotes, stopped caring about iPhone camera upgrades, and have stretched my devices for as long as I can. Apple was an idea, now it’s a company just like Costco, Amazon, and Meta

"Widely interpreted...." by people with literal brain damage. Only people pre-disposed to imagine the worst most absurd things about their political opponents imagined that was a Nazi salute. It doesn't make sense in context, in motion. Nothing about it makes sense. It's just the fever mind of some Americans who have lost it and need to come back toward moderation.

Everything about this story is wrong. Musk didnt make antisemitic comments he retweeted with an approving comment a tweet by someone else that made many comments one of which is either anti semitic or worded so poorly seems antisemitic but likely just anti-semitic.

The end part of this...people want back on X so Musk can influence Trump is just also imaginary. People want back on X because it's a huge platform and their stance toward free expression is so clearly correct even Facebook is looking to adopt it.

Why I’ll never be more than an unknown nobody…

I don’t get worked up over whatever the latest bad thing is.
I don’t get too excited over whatever the latest good thing is.
I’m slow to criticize because rarely do I know the whole picture.
I’m quick to criticize myself because I’m well aware the log in my eye is bigger than the speck in someone else’s.
I don’t spend an hour on google and then try to sound like an expert on whatever the latest news cycle is pushing.
I don’t ditch an app or service because the leader of the place does something I don’t like (which wouldn’t hurt the leader but the ones below them who are doing the work).

I just simply use and enjoy the tools I have but I also realize that they aren’t in an office building with a pirate flag working into the night trying to get something they believe in out the door as the underdogs. They’re a multi trillion company now who is entering middle age.

And just like many of us who will be brutally honest who are middle age, if every person knew every decision we’d made in our life people could critique us until there’s nothing left.

Perhaps things are unique in the very upper echelons, but the people at X and that people at Apple are just like you and me, trying to make a life and love people and be with family and friends. And just as people could throw rocks at me and how I do my job who have no clue what I do each day or the tough spots I get in, we could throw rocks too.

I would encourage us all to drop our rocks to the ground and try to make a difference to those nearest us that are unknown rather than interpret the headlines about the well known.
