I'm not convinced by the concept of renting music so I doubt if I'll be signing up.

I've got a free Spotify account but I only use it occasionally to try out albums before I buy them.

And That is the idea I use streaming services. I would prefer owing a song rather than streaming it.
You know, as long as content is not holding at your hand, you will surely lose it sometime.

You guys are totally missing the point. There is more music in the world than you could ever own. I buy my favorite albums on CD and rip them Lossless, therefore I own those. However there is tons of music I don't need to own and love to discover new music. 10$ a month is a steal to have access to millions of tacks not to mention the avenue of discovery it provides. If you a truly a music fan than you have been waiting your whole life for this. If you only listen to top 40 then I can understand.

Yeah the discovering of new artists and music that you would simply never otherwise find is one of the best points of any of these services. I know i do it all the time myself. Likewise if your very eclectic in your tastes - there really isn't a better way to get access to all that myriad of content and explore / taste it - that you never otherwise would do so. Most of can't afford to buy 'everything' .....

I would consider myself a true music fan and started building my (now large) music collection 43 years ago but I have absolutely no idea what is now in the top 40. :p

I can see why it's perfect for some people but it's not the answer I'm looking for. I've dabbled with Spotify but I'd still rather buy the music I like. It might be old fashioned but it works for me.

Therefore the sole purpose of streaming music is to explore. This fee gives you access to a larger library to explore, but that is all.

And please add me, since I am also a fan owning music, rather than just streaming them.

I know I want to try the 3-month trial. But I have a question. My wife also wants to give it a try and of course if we both like it I would do a family sharing subscription. So the question is do we have to both wait till the trial is over and the hove one of our apple IDs become the main for family sharing? We currently don't do family sharing.

I'm interested in the answer to this too, but I'm not sure there is an answer yet. Might have to wait until the launch to figure it out.

Currently my wife and I have separate Spotify subscriptions. So cutting this down to one and saving a fiver a month will be good.

It's not my bag. I've never been a 'radio' person, I have built out my library and use match. I like it (despite its recent issue) and allows me access to my whole cd collection. I don't buy much music, certainly less than £10 worth a month (or is it £8 in UK?) so apple music doesn't suit me at all. I am old fashioned and very picky in taste, I like what I like and that gets me by. I have almost 5000 songs in my library. That's enough to keep me going a lifetime without ever getting bored of my own owned music. I use match because I haven't space to carry 5000 songs around on my device but at the same time I don't want to be having to turn the computer on and sync everytime I want a song. Much easier with match and still sitting on the sofa. I do also worry with all this streaming/'rented' music how an iOS device is going to handle it. iOS isn't particulary adept at purging cache at the best of times which is why a users 'other' space can increase over time seemingly never to be reclaimed other than a reset of phone. Plus I only ever download music under wifi as I don't have unlimited data - I don't think cellular streaming is that great anyway. On my Network 4G is intermittent (at least where I live and work), 3G is congested (so inconsistent), E is just too slow. Doesn't really work well, at least not for me.

It's an innovative thing but for the reasons above I'm out.

I hope you stay and support Apple Music but Spotify will save you a "fiver" right now. They have family sharing too. Difference is they give you two people for $15 versus Apple giving 6 people for $15.

You do not have to wait until the end of the trial, you can if you like pay on day one. The trial is an option (one I will take then pay). Family sharing will be needed and can be run by either of you that wants to complete the setup first and invite the other person to the family. If you like that could be you and you would then invite her to join the family and turn on the option to share your purchases (Apple Music in this case) along with your apps and other costs.

Actually majority of the stuff on the streaming services you have access to is not mainstream top 100 stuff.

There are vast catalogues and back catalogues of artists that you would find it very hard to go and find the CD for these days. Many wonderful talented artists who self publish who wouldn't be releasing on CD format or if they did only in a small run. Whether they be classical, folk, Americana, alternative etc...

The discovery of artists that you just wouldn't normally have the opportunity to discover in a cd emporium is single handed the best feature for me.

And these are far from top 100 mainstream artists.

I know exactly what you'll get with Apple Music as I've used Spotify on and off for the last 4 years but it still doesn't interest me.

I suspect my music library will be too large to sync with Apple Music as I had to create a second, cut-down library to sign up to iTunes match (which was lucky because of the corruption issues which many of us have suffered using that service). I also use a 160 GB iPod classic as my main listening device during my workday which is not going to work with Apple Music, so I would need to splash out even more money on an iPod touch to download to for offline listening.

Like I've already said, Apple Music will be great for some people, especially those with smaller music collections. Some of us will be happy to stay as we are and do not want to rent our music, no matter how many millions of songs there are available.

My library I bet is relatively smaller than yours. However I often roam between three regions, directly preventing me from using iTunes Match, which will lock my account down in one region for at least a year. Plus, Apple music would not provide me songs I favourite. Thus supporting it or not is not a deal for me. :)

It really depends on how Apple package music availability. I discover all my new music through playlists on Spotify, of which there are too many good ones to count. I'm gonna need Apple music to hit the ground running with good playlists for mood, genre and activity, just as Spotify have done.
