AM is absolutely confusing and not at all intuitive. The Mac (M1) Music app is slow. Itunes was already user-unfriendly, Music is even more so. I do not understand how a global company like Apple develops a program that is used by millions so bypassing the user. Spotify isn't perfect either, but it's much, much clearer, more intuitive, and much faster. I can't judge whether AM has the better sound, on mobile devices with inears the difference will be negligible for sure.

AM on Mac sounds better than Spotify. The difference is enormous. Spotify is a multibillion company who comes up with some electron app ruining the macOS experience. The music selection in Spotify is superior. The podcasts? I am not interested in them, they clutter up space, there is NO WAY to get rid of them and they seldom change. My guess is Spotify gets paid for podcasts tapped upon. Spotify totally ignores customer wishes on this regard and convinced me to kick them out. If they want to sell podcasts they can launch a separate podcast app. The fact they refuse to introduce a toggle to hide them says enough.

I've run the whole gamut, Apple Music, Tidal, YouTube Music, etc. and absolutely nothing comes even half as close to Spotify's discovery and recommendation algorithms.

I don't know what kind of black magic their coders are up to, but it is astounding. The Discovery Weekly Playlist + Song Radio are truly something special.

I regularly find fantastic new artists, sometimes with less than a 1000 monthly listeners. There are many millions of songs but somehow Spotify just unearths these gems from the ether on a fairly regular basis.

It's got a ton of quirks (with an especially terrible album library management system) and the whole forced inclusion of podcasts in my interface is annoying as hell, but I am willing to put up with all of that because of how brilliant their algorithms are.
