I use a USB-C to Lightning cable to charge my 2nd gen AirPods Pro. Will it not let me charge them from an iPhone 15? And unless the AirPods Pro being sold with the USB-C charging case are different than mine, why would I need a new pair to work with the Apple Vision Pro?

Sounds like the only fact is that Apple currently does not appear to be offering a standalone USB-C charging case. All the rest, especially older Pro’s not working with Vision Pro is pure speculation and click baiting.

Maybe they will, maybe the won't offer it as a standalone.

Knowing Apple, if you absolutely had to bet your mortgage on one of those options, which would it be? I know what I'd put mine on, and it isn't the prettier of the two.

By not selling the case Apple prevents perfectly usable AirPod cases from becoming ewaste and somehow not selling them is environmentally unfriendly?

I suspect Apple may sell them at some point, if only to allow someone who loses or breaks a case to replace it.

I wonder if Apple will take the time to “explain” why the lightning 2nd gen AirPods Pro are incompatible with the Vision Pro when according to Gurman, it’s just as capable as the USB-C 2nd gen AirPods Pro.

there’s a lot of environmental friendly things they can do without harming the consumer, but they always choose to harm the customer…

Maybe Gurman is wrong and Apple updated teh hardware so they are not as capable? or Apple plans to update them at some future point if it is only a software update and not a hardware change?

Based on what?

In the past, they've offered the new things as a standalone just at later dates. Example being the wireless charger case for AirPods.

There are (allegedly) millions of Air pod pro users out there. Did people honestly think that Apple was going to allow these millions of pro users to purchase a standalone USB C charging case (would be less than $100 probably) for their already existing air pods when Apple knows they can restrict by saying users can only gets a USB C charging case with a new pair of air pod pro's ($249). Apple is all about money, do not think otherwise.
So why didn't they do that back when the wireless charging case was added to the AirPods? They sold it standalone and didn't force a purchase of a full new pair.

I believe they WILL sell this separately, just at a later date.

The who? Apple prove time and time again, they only see wallets with crisp $$'s in them. Of course they are a business, but make no mistake, they make absolutely sure to never "leave money on the table". If they do sell the empty case, it will be at a much later date, once they have made the most of encouraging people to go for the "full set" upgrade.

Thank you!! I’m reading this thread and thinking “Who throws away (or recycles) a functional charging case just to get a different charging port and thinks that is responsible, environmentally or otherwise?”

I do look forward to having one less cable once I upgrade my AirPods, but I can’t imagine upgrading a charging case for a power port. I’ve dealt with at least five types of different USB connectors over the years, and far more even less standardized power cables prior to that, so having to carry a USB-C and Lightning cable for a couple more years seems close enough to perfect that I can wait until I feel the need for actual new AirPods before I need charging case port perfection.

I find it kinda funny how people actually believe the lack of a USB-C port on these were really for environmental purposes.
this is confused. No one believes Apple was doing it for environmental purposes. The law that all devices have to adopt a standard charger was brought in for environmental purposes, and you can criticise the naïveté of the lawmakers for thinking Apple would ever make this transition in an environmentally sustainable way, but really the criticism here should all be on Apple. This is really indefensible.

If this is Apple's way of doing things then we should be complaining to the MR editors that they need to point this out in the opening post because it would stop a lot of this 'well Apple has done this in the past' which is being done to downplay posts who complain of Apple's greed. Or maybe that is what the MR editors want, leave out some details to allow drama to begin.
