Interesting. I never thought they would refurb a product like this. And in fact, really makes little sense from a financial viewpoint really. Even if they are just returns.

I’m not sure why people are disgusted by this. I don’t think the “discount” is worth it but it’s not an issue with the cleanliness. I’m sure Apple cleaned this very well and they are “like new” in that department. They can clean them a lot more thoroughly than you or I could.

Can’t Apple make the battery replacable soon. 😭 I would love to have a new pair of airpods but after buying the first gen and understanding how short lived the battery was I just can’t get myself to buy a new pair. And third party BT earplugs with multiple devices is such a bad experience.

Costco generally has the 2 models discounted every so often that the discounted price should be the regular price:
1. Apple AirPods (3rd Generation) with MagSafe Charging Case $139.99
2. Apple AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) $199.99

Not everyone has a Costco membership or warehouse near them but the store is competitive on price.
It evens discounts AppleCare+ but you must buy it with the Apple product upon purchase, which is still a good value.
It also has online ordering if you don't live near a warehouse but must become a member first.

Microcenter is a good computer store, though some of its stores are dated if you live near one:
1. Apple AirPods (3rd generation) $154.99
2. Apple AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) $194.99

Sometimes, BestBuy matches the competitor's online prices.

What's the point of buying refurbished Airpod models when the 'new' models sells at a relatively better competitive price?

Wonder if Apple just resells the returned Airpod models after cleaning/sanitizing them, as battery replacement seems difficult?

Strange move, I once asked at the apple store about my airpods 2 and the guy was like no that would be a hygiene thing. maybe it’s only the insides? they are torn down at the factory and repurposed. I’d hope they wouldn’t reuse any of the casing/mesh because that’s gross.
And that’s not even much of a price difference as others are saying

This is beyond gross. Can’t believe Apple is doing this. Yuck.
Apple doesn’t care.
If Apple can earn 1 dollar, they do it.
Without hesitation.
Peak capitalism.

Unless Apple is forced by multiple regions across the world to do so, they are not going to do it, ever.

Get the Pro 2's. AirPods are One Size Fits Many but the Pro 2's eatips make them sound amazing. I had Sony WF1000XM3 as my last earbuds and Pro 2's are noticeably better in every measure. Almost a dangerous level of noise cancellation. In fact, since they're part earplug, the Pro 2's block out noise better than my over-ear Sony WH1000XM5

I find the idea of selling refurbished earbuds to be quite unsanitary. If people buy it, then all power to them, it's just not for me.

A refurbished Airpods Max is okay since at least they have replaceable ear cups but I don't know bout this one.
