why should they prevent you from preserving memories? I don't care for seeing a sea of phone screens in front of me at a show.....So if it is in the way I scoot over about 6 inches. This is nuts if it is true and ever put into affect.
Some gigantic publishers demand to squeeze every single dot of "water" from customers. Heck, they even want to rob customers! I believe.

In the name of copyright, they have untold legal advantage against customers, and we are at the bottom level of pyramid, waiting to be slaughtered.

I know it's a bit weird but uh, this is my first impression after reading your post.

My guess is that this is an Ulterior Motive play. Many companies patent stuff just so no one else can. So let's not be mad at Apple they may in fact be locking this down so no one else can. Besides will they go around selling this feature to who ? AMC or Regal Cinemas it's not likely Apple is friendly with the US Government to say hey we can help you lets F our customers.

Besides who else would follow them. It would be a feature on most other phone that do play along.
My husband also put forth that theory today when we were chatting about it. That would be great if it is true.

I think it's a bad idea. It creates a slippery slope and it wouldn't take long for cameras to be blocked at protests, political rallies, or by police officers. Don't really see why the venue having a no recording policy and enforcing it is that hard. I've been to concerts where this is in effect and have literally seen people escorted out for not following the warnings given. At Jack White shows they're particularly strict about this. But the ability for someone to take over a function of my phone and disable it is a bigger problem to me than seeing a sea of phones.

Apple has just been granted a patent for technology that could put an end to people using their iPhones at concerts, 9to5Mac reports.

Most cameras are only capable of receiving visible light, but Apple’s patent would allow a camera with extra circuitry to receive data through the invisible infrared portion of the spectrum.

The technology has multiple uses, but what this means for concert-goers is that infrared transmitters in a venue would send data that disables your camera as soon as you hold it up to take a photo or video.

[doublepost=1467518360][/doublepost]So police can deploy infrared at protests to block you from recording

Just because something is patented doesn't mean its going to happen. Apple's patented a LOT of stuff that has never seen the light of day.

But given how dangerous and controversial this patent is, we cannot just sit by and watch.
Plus, those content arenas would extremely welcome this patent and urge to bring it to light. Soon, police, live concert, etc etc..
