I'm really liking it on my 6S Plus. I can have my one year old in one arm and pay at the register with a quick double tap and Touch ID with the other hand. No need to fumble through a wallet, insert/swipe card, type a PIN, or sign. I just wish more places accepted it.

Two thirds of the top 100 US retailers aren't going to implement Apple Pay support this year. That leaves the possibility of support in the coming years, but still, that's not good news for Apple.
IMO, many retailers do "system freezes" starting in October, where no major new changes go out to their stores until after the peak holiday period is over. In that sense, "this year" has already ended for many of them.

To me, the NFC that Apple Pay and Android Pay use is "generic", and I'd guess will be more straight-forward for retailers to enable, compared to this QR-code scanning that's going to be required for MCX ... I mean Chase Pay.

Another possibility is that those two thirds weren't going to finish EMV in time (which they're doing along with NFC) so the latter's going to wait until the former's done. I wonder if Reuters did a poll newer than the one this past June.

Maybe if you live in NY or LA, but here in a fairly large market (Tampa Bay) the options to use it are minuscule.

Amongst the stores I have used Apple Pay in here in the Tampa area:

Petco
Walgreens
McDonalds
Panera
Home Depot (not consistently)
Winn-Dixie
Subway
Apple Store

A lot of mom & pop stores are starting to support it. I used it at a local haircutting place to pay for my boys' haircuts.

Of course not all do freezes, Trader Joe's for example just enabled EMV here and everything is now slower, including Contactless. Which is exactly why many would do a freeze. Also there is no doubt that Contactless is spreading abeit slowly, now my local Arby's accepts NFC and chip cards!

Gave up, think the idea and concept is brilliant. However, after my credit cards disappeared 3 times and have to be re-entered I gave too much trouble. Started with iPhone 6plus and now on a iPhone 6s Plus and latest IOS, so should be good to go but not really. It is interesting to stand in a store and want to pay with the iPhone and then ....what the *&^#!)& is my credit cards :) Three time so no more for now.

Not many places have contactless where I am but I try to use it when I can. Only issue is sometimes it does not work, for whatever reason I get failed transactions forcing me to get my card out.

That said I think it's a great step forward

I use it regularly at McDonalds and Walgreens. Also, the last company I worked at had NFC enabled vending machines which worked great, and I got it to work once but only once at a Hardee's. I'm happy with it so far, but wish more places would add support sooner than later. I've heard that Jewel Osco and Target are going to add support which would be great as those are 2 of the other places I go frequently. More fast food places should follow McDonalds lead, instead they seem to want to push their own apps for ordering and payment.

Since they've started to roll out contactless payment, I've started to use it a lot more recently. I think the problem is, at least here in the UK, is that most people have at least have a least one contactless debit / credit card and that for purchased over £30 chip and pin is reasonably quick and secure so there isn't a huge reason to use it over paying by card. They should look at integrating it somehow into online web based transactions. It would be great if you could somehow link apple pay on your phone with your mac and use it for any web based online transaction.

Internet based ApplePay is already supported all be it on the iPhone and iPad. Granted it would be even more useful if you could purchase something online on your Mac and use ApplePay. Currently I just make those purchases on my iPad.

Everyone knows Walmart wants no part of ApplePay. I have been fighting with Walmart over chip based debit cards being automatically charged as debit without a pin or signature required. And although cash back amounts are shown, unable to get cash back
If this is happening nationwide Walmart is saving thousands on credit card charges
Anyone else come across this?

Debit cards actually work there now? I guess that's an improvement. How are you fighting them exactly?

I have had ApplePay installed on my iPhone ever since it was available but didn't start to use it until three weeks ago when I got an Apple Watch. So far, the only place I go regularly that accepts ApplePay is a Reasor's Grocery. The first several times I tried it, the ApplePay app on my watch worked perfectly. Today, though, the contactless reader didn't react to my watch so I had to use my credit card. As others have said, ApplePay is still very much a work in progress.

I think Apple underestimated the effort it takes for financial institutions and shops to implement the new way of paying, but even so I always expected the rollout of Apple Pay to go waaaaaay faster.

I think Apple misjudged the US merchant environment. It's one that really resents Visa and MasterCard and more importantly, feels entitled to our data. They would rather the card experience suck so much that people go back to using cash than to have to let people opt-in to data collection.

On another post on here, someone told me they spend nearly £350 in an Apple Store with Apple Pay.
I have bought my 6s+ (£699), my Apple Watch (£339), and the Steelseries controller (£40) all in the Apple Store with NFC. Apple are one of the few retailers who accept Apple Pay without a contactless limit.

I think Boots are set be limitless sometime this month.

More detailed, crowd sourced, should cover all credit cards not just M/C.
Turn by turn directions, sharing location etc.

With very few exceptions it's a good bet that if MC's supported, the others are too. Or at least Visa anyway. Mobile Pay Find will also let you open entries in Apple Maps for turn-by-turn, etc.

In any case I wish you the best of luck; if yours ends up being a better app than the others then that's a good thing for everyone.

Thanks for the info.

Here in the UK, contactless payments have a £30 limit, however, I've used Apple Pay in Marks & Spencers for amounts of £45 and over, so perhaps the limit is at the discretion of the retailer. The downside to this is, it's going to be difficult to know exactly how much you will be able to spend and pay for with Apple Pay in that particular shop.

With the higher security of Apple Pay over chip & pin, I think the only limit should be the credit limit of the card holder's credit card.

Apple stores in the UK don't have a limit either and there are a few other retailers too with no limit.
