I used it at the Apple Store the other day and it was ready well before the Apple Rep was, and it hung around quite a while waiting for him... 15-20 seconds probably? Just a quick double tap of the side button. That was the one inconvenience of the iPhone 7+. . . You had to lock it and then double tap home to bring it up unless you wanted to open the wallet app. Much more intuitive now.

I think it genuinely works better than Apple pay with Touch ID. I use Apple Pay on a daily basis and with Touch ID on a few occasions it would fail wet finger etc and I’d have to pay by passcode or just get my bank card out. It’s so fast with Face ID! I love it!

Agreed whether using pay or just trying to unlock your phone in the drizzle of the PNW, Face ID is much better.

Apple Watch is still the fastest method IMHO.

Sure, but that was not the question...

Been lingering around, reading the posts, debating about the X. My big concern is how well FaceID does/doesn't work when trying to use Apple Pay.

What has everyone's experiences been so far when using the X and trying to use Apple Pay? Has it been easier/harder for you to use vs a 6/7/8 with TouchID?

Are you having to completely retrain yourself on how you use Apple Pay? I know I usually lay my 7 down on the reader (at an angle that I wouldn't think would scan my face), and then put my finger on the TouchID.

Just wondering what the real world experiences have been like.

I find it INCREDIBLY easy to use Face ID with Apple Pay, and have used it several times since I received my X on November 3. Just double tap the side button and it will immediately read your face, then you can just hold it near the reader. You don't need to do some awkward laying of it down on reader and then scan face from a weird position or anything. FYI, you also don't have to unlock phone first: if your phone is still locked and you double tap side button it will do the Face ID for Apple Pay immediately.

Also, just thinking out loud here, but is there any chance of authorizing payment to something you didn't intend to? For example, if you prepare your wallet ahead of time by authenticating with FaceID, and it's just waiting to connect to the NFC terminal, and there happens to be two NFC sensors awaiting payment for something within proximity, could there be conflicts? Maybe it's not a realistic scenario, as I'm by no means an NFC expert.

You'd have to be within a few inches of a terminal.

That's why it's called Near Field Communications (NFC).
