Yeah, I get the impression it's still a bit of a land grab war in the states with some folks trying to push their own payment scheme rather than standard NFC/ApplePay.

Over here it's a little more subtle because NFC payments predominate and therefore ApplePay works in some form in all those places. We do have a historic limit which was £8 (IIRC) then £20 and now £30 for standard NFC payments but ApplePay and Android Pay shouldn't be subject to those and in many supermarkets they aren't now although Tesco seems annoyingly to be trying to make folks use their 'TescoPay' system (a QR code?? that's secure?? no thanks) and they should really learn the lesson from Barclays who as a bank weren't offering their accounts on ApplePay initially because of their bPay initiative.. I think exec heads rolled over that one and Barclaycard worked well on ApplePay very quickly after they saw sense.

Didn't know this! Just submitted my application (seriously). Do you get a referral bonus?! :D

I’m submitting mine right now as well. How did I not know this? (Probably because I turn a deaf ear to all of the queries of store specific credit cards. This debit card sounds great, though I wish it would link to Apple Pay.)

Good for you but I will do it my way if that is ok.

Of course. I have no interest or investment in how you pay for things. Only reason I commented was to address legitimate comparisons between older technology and Apple Pay for those that might not already be aware. If someone wants to continue using physical cards, writing checks, paying with cash, engaging in a barter/exchange system, etc, that has (almost) zero impact on my life; you do you.

Using ApplePay always benefits you... If there is a data breach, your actual card number will not be part of it. This is HUGE to me, as it minimizes the number of times I have to change my debit/credit card number.
This is why I use it as much as possible. I’m sick to death of data breaches, having to get a new card, track my credit rating, etc. it’s ridiculous, and doesn’t seem to be getting anything but worse. So I try to remove my info from the dataset.

I try Apple Pay first, and it works at probably 85% of the retail shops I visit, and maybe 40% of the restaurants.

Also, I was in the ER a couple of weeks ago. It was enough of an emergency that my doctor needed me to go there, but not so much that I was moved to the front of triage, so I was waiting for a bed for several hours. Thank goodness for vending machines that accepted Apple Pay, because I was starving!

Wal-Mart doesn't use it, but I can go to a handful of mom and pop stores around town that do. Dumb.

Wow thanks for sharing that link! Huge that Target’s adopting it! I’m sure it’ll be another 5 years before stubborn Walmart that wants us to use their stupid app will flip the switch.
