Interesting, I didn't think it was at all possible until someone told me very recently it was possible nearly everywhere now. So I very boldly paid for a big shop at Sainsbury's with it. Got lucky. If it was Tesco I might have looked a fool

Added home bargains to the list. Spent £40 tonight and used Apple Pay without issue. And for those wondering how to spend that much there, they had lots of protein for cheap haha.

Do you have to specify you want to use Apple Pay or will it when fine when the cashier just assumes you’re using contactless?

You don’t have to specify using Apple Pay, I just normally say can I pay with contactless please. Sometimes if the amount is over £30, I say I am paying with Apple Pay if I know the store accepts it, to avoid the person serving me saying that the contactless limit is £30. It’s still not unusual to find staff that do not realise that Apple Pay can be above £30.

I get that all the time!

Even worse, though, is when you try to refund something that was bought with Apple Pay and they ask to see the card. Trying to explain to them that Apple Pay uses a Device Account Number rather than the number on the card is a nightmare!

does anyone know if HMV has lifted the limit? i would really love to be able to go on a shopping trip to Birmingham and just use Apple Pay in shops like HMV, hotel chocolat, Skechers and so on but so far the only place i'm able to use Apple Pay over £30 is the Apple store

I noticed that Debenhams in Bristol have ApplePay stickers on their checkouts and doors, I didn't ask or try, but assuming it is a department store I guess it should be above 30 too. Will try or ask another time.

I went to Asda today and at the self checkout it specifically says " Contactless- Up To £30 "

Doesn't say anything about Apple pay

Can confirm Asda do not accept contactless/apple pay over £30 in the self checkout or the normal checkout.
I asked the lady at the normal checkout if i could pay via apple pay for the shopping ( £50 ) and she said give it a go, put my phone to the machine and nothing happened, it just said " Please Insert Card " and had to pay via chip and pin.

At least we know now, Asda definitely do not accept over £30 at this moment

At Aldi and Lidl you can just ask for card payment, saying that I usually have my Watch ready when they come to telling me the price, but am pretty sure just asking to pay by card will do the trick.
