It's not the end of the world for me, but this launch has seriously shaken my confidence in apple's abilities as of late. The watch and Apple TV I figured could be flukes but this is too much.

I've never had a bad experience with Apple, but this launch has been ridiculous. No dates until just before, not enough stock, spotty delivery to its stores, and uninformed staff.

And I feel for the employees in the stores - sometimes it feels like they're just as in the dark as we are. It's not their fault and I've seen some of them be spoken to quite harshly and respond very well. But I feel for them. This has to be a crazy week. And they're the frontlines bearing the brunt of it all.

Hi all,

So, I've just checked for the umpteenth time today and my Smart Keyboard and Pencil have just moved from Processing to PFS. I'm in the UK, I ordered the IPP, SK and Pencil on 11th Nov - order confirmation email was timestamped 0833 GMT, IPP was estimated at 1 business day, delivery on 13th Nov, received it 12th Nov. SK and Pencil were originally estimated as 1-2 weeks, delivery 19th-26th and I'm now vaguely hopeful that they'll be dispatched tonight for delivery tomorrow.

Crossing my fingers for the rest of you in the same boat.

Cheers,

Greg

Agreed about the sentiment. This supply without warning is just painful. Killing my arguments for Apple.

Can anyone verify the experience where their order REMAINED "In Processing" but still got delivered?

Mine is for 19th through 27th and I am still "In Processing".

I will be crazy disappointed if I don't have this pencil by Thanksgiving break to play with....

(Nov. 11th 1am my time there was a pencil available to pickup in Boise, Idaho. 5 hour drive, I actually considered it and wish I just had done it now....)

I'm in the same window as you. Still processing. I'm losing hope that it's going to ship today for delivery tomorrow. I've checked so many times now I don't even know what my reaction will be when it moves out of "processing". I'll update here when it changes. Thanksgiving break is really the time I'm hoping to have mine by, too.

Thanks! Will keep an eye out for your update to give me hope. I have been updating the order page every hour for over a week now. So I feel ya!

Real glad I paid the extra $ for the overnight shipping. :)

As of late? Apple has virtually never had a launch that had ample supply of every single product, and while it's definitely understandable to be disappointed in having to wait for something, it's absurd to think they can ship something that isn't yet manufactured, or that they can have exactly the correct number of each item made at the same time.

Apple TVs are available in stores right now. Less than a month after launch. iPad Pros will take longer to stabilize, but they will. As will accessories.

Let's say everything gets fully caught up January. would you rather have had Apple wait until then to launch the iPad Pro? Because that's the alternative.

I am sorry to disagree, because I do think you are reasonable. And fair.

But my - possibly unfair - group is thinking:
Why would they NOT be able to create more stock for the Apple Pencil by now?

1- The stock was gone for people ordering RIGHT when the apple store opened for sales. It isn't like people are coming a week late and complaining it got sold out because it was popular. It was sold out immediately. Either epic fail or planned shortage to build idiot public interest. "Sold out?? It must be GREAT!"

2- They didn't just have the time from the announcement to the release to start production on the Apple Pencil. If they are merely a month out from being full of stock, then they failed in one of the months during production! We know they could have done better to HAVE the stock good to go by now.

3- This isn't just something else to buy. This is practically the ONLY reason for the iPad Pro. The iPad Pro is the Cintiq we have been waiting for and that REQUIRES the Apple Pencil. It is ridiculous I could have one without the other. The iPad Air 2 is great for all the reasons the iPad Pro is great, minus the extra size. Some people don't want to deal with the extra size, some people like me can't wait for an even bigger one. XD So, the iPad Pro shouldn't have existed without the Apple Pencil being available. Bottom line.

But like I said, you are being more fair than me. All this will be over once I have a pencil. Hopefully that is what I can be thankful for this coming Turkey day! :D

Likewise the Apple Pencil is the only reason why I bought a IPP. I've had the iPad a week now and not even switched it on. I only bought it as a drawing device, so little point. Hopefully it'll turn out better than the Cintiq.

My main gripe is the lack of stock knowledge given to staff. I phoned Apple (presumably Cork) on the 11th after realising the delivery date for the pencil was going to be two weeks. When I asked if it was worth going down to a local store on the 12th, they replied no Pencils would be in the stores until the 13th. This turned out to be incorrect.

Has any one in the USA seen there order status change? It seems like the only orders seeing movement are the ones in the UK.

I don't think so... Las Vegas NV here.. I placed my order right at midnight on release day... received my IPP the Thursday after. However my pencil AND keyboard are still showing processing with shipment dates of 11/19 - 11/27, that's with next day shipping. UGH i wait...

My Swiss order (placed very close to launch on release day) changed today from processing to preparing for shipment. It was listed as delivers between the 19th and 26th, so i suspect it will be sent tomorrow and I will receive it on Monday as the couriers here do not deliver on Saturday (well, not without charging 50$ for the privilege).

Ordered close to midnight as possable. Mine still says processing. (NY here) Id really like the dam thing by thanksgiving if at all possable. hopefully alot sooner cause i got a ton of artwork i want to get started on!

I am with yah ordered right at launch mine still says processing 11/19-11/27 (Minnesota order)

You have plenty of time. My Pro changed to preparing for shipment last Wednesday evening around 5pm (UK) and it was delivered the next day.

I spoke too soon, preparing for shipment as of this afternoon. Potential Firday or Saturday delivery means my Pencil search is now a lot more urgent...

Second to last update:
Both pencil and keyboard has been delivered on my desk at work now.
I have not yet opened the boxes, hopefully all is well.

When I get home I will take some high resolution photos and post link to them here. Before the pencil is possibly inevitably desecrated by oil of my otherwise relatively clean hands.

Tested, and happy to report it works fine, and that I was not trolled by something else being in said boxes.
I'm so used to being able to use the back of the pen as an eraser, I have to think twice for now while using this.

But I like how in procreate you can set up so finger is a different tool to pencil.
Macro photography of pencil and keyboard (I blurred out the serial number as that seems to be a thing to do)

And brief test:
I notice pixels being pushed/moved on the screen when using this tho. Kinda scary

My pencil arrived this morning. Earlier than the 11/20-11/25 quoted at the time of order.

I ordered right as preorders began, picked up my iPad Pro the following day in-store and the pencil arrived yesterday.

Trouble is i must pop out for 20 mins some time tomorrow morning. Unavoidable, and the house will be empty.

What a dilemma. What to do? My ipad turned up by about 10am, so i might wait until then and go out. Or do i go out extra early and hope?

FFS!!!
