I have spent the past 72 hours basically on the phone with apple to try to find out what they are going to do about these browsers problems. Especially the fact they do NOT allow open source on any video web functions (in other words U will never be able to see Vids on any site Iphone is not in bed with)

They have only hung-up on me now, 5 times or just “accidentally” transferred me to the beginning of the line (U guys know how the companies are about that stuff) They refuse to even comment on if they are going to fix these Major browser problems, and at one time laughed at me for asking then hung up.

Are we going to get a representative from apple address this problem or NOT, it is not going away. How could they tell people they get the “real” web when they will not even address the problems they have. I can not believe they even offered this “browser” with its complete lack of any ability to do what most of us would like a web browser to do, that being interacting with the web.

Seems all they care about is ripping U guys off on there Itunes videos, and songs while blocking your Real web access to boost their own sales. This is fine I guess, but will make them nothing but the best for a year or less then personally I hope they go bankrupt, for forcing this incomplete junk on us while telling us we are getting the Real Web.

that is bad customer service, go to an apple store or something and shout at them ad tell them what you have said on here...i cant believe a guy actualy laughed then hung up, kinda harsh

That is weird.

Why on earth are you badgering their Customer Service Department about a feature request.

Your hostility is not warranted. What are you expecting them to say? They don't know. You are asking for additional functionality for the phone. It is not like they killed your child.

I think your behavior has gone past inappropriate at this point. Why would you keep calling them back on this. It is not normal.

Not playing videos off a site you might use it is not a major browser problem.

Well if I worked in customer service and someone called with the attitude you posted above Id probably hand up too.

i would like to know why you bothered trying again? after the first hang up, and why you spent 72 hours trying to get an answer?

Yeah...I'm on the calm down, get over it, and leave customer service alone side.

And I don't think they'll be going bankrupt anytime soon judging by the crowds I saw in the Apple store 'round here today.

I was talking with technical support, NOT the Iphone sales person. I spend 4 hours being transferred around to a person that could answer my questions, but they do not want to tell us anything. In fact I think they planed to never allow real or full web access only a glass window web, that u will have to pay them for everything U get for free now.

Not having videos play over the web not a big deal, or a browser problem sounds like your dialing in this crap from 1985 or something. This is a portable video player that implies U can play vids online, what they do not tell U is its only on “approved apple sites” and that its just a teaser to get U to pay for their Itune or other upsale crap

If Iphone is going to keep their web functions closed source, then they will go bankrupt. And as soon as True Web Access is available on a similar phone they will be so yesterdays news and U will be stuck with a 600$ Itune player

not sure tech support can help you with something the iphone can't do. Haha.

Go to the genius bar, make a fuss, attract a crowd and make people not buy the iphone. That'd be the best path to take =P

Yeah, I guess I'm not quite sure why you'd call a CSR with a feature request... you do realize that there are other companies that Apple needs to work with for what you are saying to happen (i.e. Flash and Adobe), and that can sometimes slow things down...

just because it is a portable video player dosent mean you can play vids online...

Then do not say U get Full Web Access, when its a LIE. I am telling U they are DOA this will last no longer than any other cell phone, and we all should just save out money until the Real things comes along

seriously stop complaining about this issue, it is needless, not everyone cares for the web access they allow

Do U know what your talking about or are U working for apple? I think this is easy to follow, if U work for apple why not get them to fix the problems instead of pretending they do not exist or are not important.

I am not asking for “features” ether I am asking for MPEG4 compatibility, or when they will be possible. They can do this now, and the only reason they do not it to charge U for their crap. If U can not see this then I hope your happy with your Iphone in a year, when everyone can do more than U on the mobile web

well this is a first gen phone on first gen software. I am pretty certain that the web video stuff will be addressed in a subsequent software release.

I also think calling tech support is a definate waste of time considering this is apple we're talking about here.

I would agree that Jobs kept talking about the "real web," but there's no java, flash, or video streaming (let along WMV or Real codec support).

In interviews with Jobs prior to launch, he mentioned that all these technologies would not be available at launch, commenting on how the extra processor hit with video and java killed battery. I've only seen that he only hinted that Flash may one day be available.

I don't understand your apparent rage over the issue. But give it time; Apple isn't in the business of annoying it's customer base. I would send Steve a feature request e-mail... and let tech support know what you're looking for. Then wait. Tech support and the jobs email address will get forwarded to the proper project group responsible for future enhancements.

why did you buy the iPhone???

EVERYONE knew that it was not capable of playing embedded video (except h.264 or quicktime in some cases).

please return it to apple for the good of everyone.

the tech support guy in india really can't do much to tell you when MPEG4integration is possible.

This is what does not make sense.

They say the iPhone runs on os x. (but it doesn't run os x applications)
They say the iphone runs Safari (but it doesn't run flash, etc)

I wish they wouldnt call the os and web browser false names. They most certainly are not os X and safari, not even close. Its kind of stupid really.

Oh, and a version of os x and safari does not make it OS X and Safari.

Ahaha, it's cute how you think this isn't the norm and that you could get answers from the support line. Face it, it is a PHONE, not only that, but one that is owned by Apple, who, historically, is VERY nice to there partners. Just be happy and hope for an update.

If you would look at the mounted RAM disk, it is OS X, just because it doesn't run Pages, doesn't say otherwise. It is on a different processor which means intel/ppc apps won't work and rosetta would kill the iPhone. It uses the same frameworks, file formats, File system, crash log, file hierarchy, unix binaries, commands and more but just because it doesn't look like OSX, it isn't. Learn what OSX is and then try to downplay it.

Because the browser is missing a third party plug in doesn't mean it isn't Safari. It uses WebKit which is the basis of Safari so, for all intensive purposes, it IS Safari, just in a different form. Once again, learn what Safari is and then tell me it isn't.

Look, lots of online video uses flash. The iPhone is an arm CPU that doesn't have a flash port. One day perhaps. We knew this from day one.

As for video on the iPhone otherwise, it has youtube which is both free and open - anyone can post video.

Secondly I have video on my iPhone that I ripped from one of my DVDs.

So I have 2 free video sources. And iTunes of course.

Compare to ... Vcast? Get real.

Quit your QQing.

and java killed battery.
He said Java killed the battery?

The iPhone's processor appears to have Jazelle support (basically in-hardware Java acceleration), although this is a common feature in a lot of ARM processors. Applets may be uncommon these days, but Java is almost de-facto in the mobile world (midlets, .etc).

There's going to be a boatload of updates leading up to Leopard.
Apple NEVER said or implied you could use Flash.Period.

And starting a thread called "Apple refuses to comment" is a dumb thing because there is nothing wrong!!

This should be wasteland.
