I guess we have different quality standards.
iMovie's improper handling of DV is widely discussed in different sites and forums . Just couple of examples:

I can understand removing interlaced fields on real time playback, but why should they do it on export. Most of modern DV cameras have progressive mode. iMove 08 seems to make no difference and removes lines also from non-interlaced video. As the software is capable of handling HD, there shouldn't be any performance issues why they should cut out half of the lines.

And DV looks great with my mbp.
It's not imovie, it's your hard drive or your camcorder.
