Apple today released watchOS 10.3, the third major update to the watchOS 10 operating system that was released in September. watchOS 10.3 comes over a month after watchOS 10.2, a major update that brought Health data access to Siri.

‌watchOS 10‌‌.3 can be downloaded for free through the Apple Watch app on an iPhone running iOS 17 or later by opening it up and going to General & Software Update. To install the new software, the Apple Watch needs to have at least 50 percent battery and it needs to be placed on a charger.

The watchOS 10.3 update includes a new Unity Bloom watch face to celebrate Black History Month.

Apple's release notes also say that the update includes unspecified improvements and bug fixes.

I will say what I always say when it is watch Update day. I really wish there was a better way to update the watch. It's slow, it gives me a little anxiety because I'm in the process of ring closing for the day, and I hate that I have to put a fully charged watch on my charger to make sure the update runs properly. It's the 10th anniversary of the watch. Can we come up with a way to streamline the process?

That's probably what I'm looking most forward to with the new OS at WWDC. Streamline Watch Update Days where they go a lot more smoothly than they typically go.

Like what? It's not all that different from how iPhone updates, which is a far more capable device.

Holding off. I'm on a S7SBTi. It has 97% Battery Health and I'm unwilling to risk it with how these watch updates have treated the battery lately. Thank you to all the brave souls taking the plunge. 🫡

I usually update my phone, computer, and watch at the same time since Apple tends to release updates for them all on the same day. Won’t be updating the AWU2 this time. Don’t trust Apple on it this time.
Don’t trust Apple this time? You do realize, don’t you, that every single pundit and expert on the planet has said that if Apple were to disable O2 on previously sold watches there would instantly be dozens of class action lawsuits filed in the blink of an eye.

You do realize, don’t you, only series 9 and Ultra 2 watches are affected by the ban and only they will have the O2 disabled.

You do realize, don’t you, that even Masimo has said it’s okay that Apple is doing this?

Yet you don’t trust Apple? Good grief, man.

You don't need to put the watch on the charger as it's updating would be one example. You don't put the Iphone on hte charger while it's updating, nor any other Apple product.
You do if the battery is not charged enough. Which is the entire point. Apple Watch has a microscopic battery in it (duh). And the software on it has to be obsessively optimized to prevent draining it instantly while trying to do some of the same functions as iPhone.

Yeah let's let you update Apple Watch off the charger and have it go from 80 to 20 in the process...great user experience. Or worse, have it die mid-update and brick itself. So smart.
