Do you think Apple says let's piss off the community.

Well, not exactly. But, when Apple has to chose between satisfying their own paying customers vs their own greed-driven self-interests, I think we know which way Apple sways. I love Apple products, but I am starting to hate their arrogance every passing day.

Obviously not it's either licensing issues (my guess) or has to do with AT&T having a hissy fit thinking it'll cause support issues when people say yea I sent an email to my mom and she can't read my love emojis I demand to speak to a supervisor at once gosh dang it!

Tell us exactly what these "licensing issues" are? What would one have to do to license these cartoons? Are these exact drawings Apple's creation or those of an outside artist?

As for AT&T getting nasty calls, well that's the service industry for you - they should be used to it. This is one of the reasons why we send them money every month - for a service. I don't know how these phone calls are a concern of Apple's though. Does AT&T dictate to Symbian or to MS about what should be included in their mobile OSs?

Lately, I think the answer is yes. :p

Is it any of Apple's business if we are using something that is completely free and is supported in another country as a standard feature for our own use? (wow this is really poorly worded...well you get the point)

Like I said, Buzz Killington.

So I have a question...How will I be able to get Emoji if I have to get my iPhone replaced?? Will there be a way??? :(

I would think that because you already have the app, you could just reload it onto your new iPhone and then enable the Emoji. That is, unless Apple totally disables them with a future firmware update (which wouldn't surprise me - they're not exactly the kind of folks you can trust).

Umm... anyone can see those little emoji icons whether they can send them or not. The emoji enablers simply allow you to send them.
Are you sure about this? I've tested this out with a few other friends who own iPhones and only those with version 2.2 are able to see them.

with all this Apple making bad calls on customers, isn't it time people just dumped iPhone all together for another phone, since Apple is not satisfying customer's need.

I am starting to go that direction, just sell off my iPhone to someone else on eBay.

That's because emoji didn't even exist until 2.2

The question is, why are some of your friends still on lower OS versions?

Believe me, I've thought about it. But, I changed carriers for this phone and dragged my whole family with me. I also am locked in for 2 years. It's not that the iPhone is a bad cellphone; it's probably the best on the market right now. However, I've come to think that having choices and control over the phone that I actually own may be more important to me. I love the phone, but I'm just tiring of what Apple says I can do with it and what I can't. If an Android phone comes to AT&T in the next year, I probably will switch.

Right, so when you said "anyone can see those little emoji icons" you were really referring to v2.2 users, and not just "anyone". Just as someone else posted that Blackberries, Windows Mobile, etc. can't see them and then you clarified that you meant only iPhones.

I can't say why some of my friends haven't updated their OS yet. Not everyone updates to the latest software as soon as it comes out. For example, think about all the apps you run on your computer... are they all running the latest versions?

I'm rehasing this old thread I found. I quickly did a search on ITunes and found some emoticon apps, but they seem to be for e-mail. My primary hope is to find some for text msg'ing. A friend of mine had one called frostyplace (I believe was the name), but it's no longer available.

Are there any emoticon apps that you can recommend, especially for use with text msg'ing? Thanks!
