Why even report this? It‘s so for out, a lot can and will change with their planning based on things beyond their control.
Definitely true, but then again this website has the word Rumors right in the title. Obviously we have to take this all with a gigantic grain of salt.

But he, then you can write an article saying the “cancelled it”
LOL this drives me nuts too. A rumor that a rumored thing is no longer happening sounds more like a false rumor to me than a "cancellation".

By 2027, there will be relatively cheap microLED TV Panels available, which are much better suited for a desktop monitor for obvious reasons. Hopefully this is just another stupid rumor straight from the **s.
I’m not so sure about that as other technologies are offering something that is far cheaper and the complexity of manufacturing tolerances for this technology is immense and failure is high. It will still be a very premium display technology even in four years time.

The days of tech products getting better and cheaper has come to an end, things will get better but you will pay significantly more for it as companies are refusing to let their financials suffer and they know people will pay for it so unless there is an economic shock, be prepared to empty your wallet if you want it.

OLED used to be insanely expensive to manufacture. And earlier LCD. First someone comes up with new tech, next step is making mass production of it cheap - we'll get there. 4 years is a lot of time.
OLED is awesome but not for a monitor with the same UI layouts being burned into it hours a day.

Well Apple, I won’t have one unless you bring the cost down. Make it as insanely great at you want. More than £499 and I’m out.

I think you forgot a 9

Apple are not interested in selling affordable displays. They are going to target the higher end of the Pro market. All we can do is hope third parties are going to offer competing 5K, 6K and 8K 120hz options at approachable prices whenever USB 4.0 v2 comes out.

Actually, recent OLED's are more prone to burn-in than the earlier models according to recent testing from rtings.com just last month where they tested the latest LG WOLED and Samsung QD-OLED technology.

This could be due to the panel makers driving them harder with better peak and sustained brightness. I personally think OLED isn't the way forward and they should instead concentrate on making MicroLED production ready.

If you blast CCN on full brightness 24/7 for months, then yes, you risk burn in, but like RTings explained, this is an extreme case and on top of that, this comparison is between 2 year models vs 1 year old models. Im talking about like 2016 early tech vs. current tech (incl. 2 year old models) vs. 2027 future tech.

And MicroLED is more like 2037 tech (for large displays).

On my WOLED I had concerning image retention within the first day. Using a 2022 up-to-date panel. Sure it wasn't burned in, but I did have to perform pixel cleaning to remove it (which worked).

Getting any kind of image retention within the first 12 hours doesn't make me think it will last several years without problems to be hones with you.

I don't think OLED will ever be a great screen technology for static images like computer display use, just my opinion.

Temporary image retention in the first couple of weeks is more likely than after and it shouldn’t be a reason to be worried. Just take a little bit of care by varying the content you display and you should be fine.

And yes, edge-lit LCDs are the most resilient, but let me try it this way: do you remember how people were concerned about burn-in on the iPhone X? Is anyone concerned today? Or are people just using their phones like its not an issue, because it isn't an issue?

The same will happen with desktop OLEDs in 2027. Mark my words.

I went from a £100 HP 24” to an initially £600 now £300 discounted BenQ 2144p 144hz fake HDR display with speakers etc. that’s enough of a insane upgrade for me for another few years!

I don’t blame Apple but I just feel sad knowing that I won’t have a shiny Apple display on my desk anytime soon. Though the last Cinema Display was a beauty and not so out of reach to normies

I mean.. I shouldn't have to do anything, I don't want a burden.

I find it annoying that when I stop looking at my iPhone for 10 seconds while I grab something the screen dims to stop burning in and this is on an iPhone 13, not an iPhone X from many years ago. If that is Apples plan to make OLED work on Mac then I won't buy one for sure.

I mean we can all make predictions. Personally, I prefer the MiniLED tech we have now the 2,500 zone count on the 16 MBP I have looks great. Compared with the OLED's in my life it's close enough, gets like 80% the way there in dark scenes with some noticeable halos but nothing insane.

Gets way way way brighter than any OLED I've ever seen at 1600 Nits peak though.
