But completely missing as an option to select for 42mm. Can't select 42mm and just see "sold out", it's just completely missing for some colours but not for 38mm. This is from the Apple Store app.

Yup. Noticed that too. Which is why I thought maybe I was mistaken and there never was a release for the 42mm in fog for some reason.

I'm getting confused by their availability schedules. It seems like these great colors are a "blink and you miss it" proposition. It's tough because some bands I wanted to buy or receive as gifts but by the time the birthday or holiday rolls around the opportunity to purchase seems to have passed on by. I wanted to expand my collection of turquoise accessories that I received for Christmas but that's a discontinued color. Sigh.

What discontinued color? If you meant Jay Blue classic/modern buckle or Turquoise sport band, which I assume would match your turquoise accessories, I don't think they're discontinued but rather are simply sold out at the moment.

They discontinued iPad mini covers and cases in Turquoise a couple of months ago. I have a 6Plud case and watch bands and a mini cover in Turquoise and was hoping for a matching case mini case. But they're gone. Completely gone. Not just sold out. I think the sport bands are now gone for good, too.

I think they're doing seasonal releases for Apple Watch bands - so when they introduce "fall" colours or "summer" colours they remove some other options to make room.
I guess that makes sense but their windows of availability are still very narrow.

While they may have discontinued the iPad mini covers and cases in Turquoise, the Turquoise sport bands are still currently available in 42mm but showing "sold out" in 38mm so the sport bands are most certainly not discontinued in this color.

They were gone in my local store last time I was there and not shown on the display so I think sold out is a precursor to being discontinued but we will see.

I've managed to get a few bands on steep discount; got a midnight blue at Target for $30 or so, and walnut, fog, and pink at Micro Center for $25 each. I don't know whether those colours are being discontinued or just shuffled out of inventorise for the summer.

They had light pink ones half off but they were all 42mm. That's the last colour I really am hoping to get.
