Why throw out an iPhone box? Especially so close to buying….This is a lesson in always doing your trade in in person.
I traded in my old iPhone 12 Pro Max with a Verizon carrier deal for the new iPhone 15 Pro Max. My screen had a tiny crack on the bezel of the old iPhone, but that should be fine - according to the iPhone trade in questionnaire, I’m eligible for $113 through Apple, or up to $830 through Verizon, even with a minor crack. So I send in my device, but get a revised value for $0. I tried to appeal it but they insist it’s worth $0. (I made a post about this a while ago with a different account, they listed “shattered chin place” as the reason)
So I get it sent back and take it to the Apple Store, and they do their own analysis with their trade in MRI, and they say it’s worth $830 through the Verizon trade in (the same exact deal I sent it in for in the first place), but they can’t reapply it retroactively because it’s been more than 14 days since purchase.
They said that they could make an exception and I can return my new 15 Pro Max past the 14 day deadline, at which point I can just buy a new 15 pro max and trade in my old phone with that purchase, getting the full trade in amount.
The kicker - they will not and cannot do a return unless I have the cardboard box the phone came in, which I no longer have.
So now I can’t return my new phone, am being charged an extra $830 I can’t afford, even though my device was WORTH $830 and someone messed up in the trade-in department. And there’s seemingly nothing I can do.
Does anyone have any advice or tips?
A 13 month old iPhone is considered ancient to some around these parts. How is a barely 3 year old phone “super” old
They just handed you $830 in cash, huh? AmazingThey literally did for me $830 and I had a crack on both the front and the back. SO...........................you are wrong...
Essentially, yes, since the trade in value was $830. But you knew what you were implying, so I will let it go at that. They just handed you $830 in cash, huh? Amazing
Oh, so they “literally” didn’t give you cash? In other words, they gave you a credit on your Verizon account….Essentially, yes, since the trade in value was $830. But you knew what you were implying, so I will let it go at that.
Exactly.Oh, so they “literally” didn’t give you cash? In other words, they gave you a credit on your Verizon account….
Yeah-- and that's the point some of us are trying to make. Verizon used your phone trade-in as a lure to get you to stay in a contract with them for a longer period of time. If you cancel your Verizon plan, you don't get the remainder of the "money" they gave you for the phone. The phone itself isn't actually worth $800, and you didn't REALLY get $800 for it. Verizon makes money off it, or else they wouldn't make the offer.Exactly.
Okay? I am going to be with them anyway, so who gets to screw whom? My iPhone Pro Max had chips in the front and back--which made it worth about $400 on Ebay or Swappa. So.......in real world value, I stay with the company I was already staying with and received monetary recompense that was about $400 more than I would have received in cold hard cash? I'll take it. And that's by your standards. I got $800 without having to sell a phone that is hard to sell.Yeah-- and that's the point some of us are trying to make.
